    The Guide...

I've been distracted by real-life issues recently which has slowed the pace of uploading the Guide down. I'm happy to embed my videos, though some of them do slightly silly things to make more entertaining videos so in those cases I might not (in Destroyer Rescue, for example, I hare around at...

The lack of strategy in Wing Commander

So it is. You'd think I'd have noticed given there's a communication from one of the minelayers in the freeze-frame preview. For some reason I can't edit the original post. Oh well, here's the video that I should have linked: I'm glad someone likes the videos, anyway. I'm about to record my...

What else do you expect from a Pontiac?

There's been a fair amount of complaints about the wingman AI around here recently, and these are met with a resigned shrug of the shoulders and a comment to the effect that it's hardcoded and couldn't be altered. In, then, the spirit of whining about things we can't change, I propose a communal...

The lack of strategy in Wing Commander

Lashing Out is one of the harder missions on nightmare (and 20 kills probably isn't enough - my run in the attached video has 28), but it's far from impossible and definitely very strategic. See, the mission designer played a dirty trick on you in Lashing Out. It's a very clever dirty trick and...

Play Wing Commander: Standoff! (August 25, 2011)

It's pretty rare to find a player who doesn't think they're intended to win every mission though. But I see what you mean from a Fleet Action perspective. The order of Standoff/Fleet Action is an interesting one. I played the first four episodes, then read FA, then played the fifth episode. The...

    Custom controls?

You can, though, download one of many different utilities which will map joystick buttons to keyboard buttons. I'm currently experimenting with U (target nearest), Alt-N (tactical map) and M mapped onto my stick. As anyone who's watched my videos already knows, I never bother with G...

    A dead-end Bug already....

Prince Thrakhath himself answers your final question, if you click on the right barrel at the right time... (or search this forum for easter eggs I guess)

    The Guide...

Yeah, if an error jumps out at me when I'm transcribing I correct it (for example, Trigger was frequently listed as a wingman in Episode 1, which I understand was originally the case but isn't any more), but if it doesn't strike me as wrong it makes it through to the next step. Right now the...

    The Guide...

A question - currently the Losing and Winning path missions are numbered consecutively from the start of Episode 3 and don't restart with each episode. It seems strange to me to refer to Clearing the Path as Episode 4 - Winning Mission 5, given that it's the first mission of Ep4 Winning (though...

    The Guide...

Like I said last night, I'll join in, since I'm building up a supply of maps, comments and video run-throughs anyway they may as well be used for a Guide. My data will have the twin flaws of being tested mostly on Nightmare and only covering the winning path except in Ep5 though. I also should...

Bug (?) in Destroyer Rescue comms

No, that's on Nightmare unless somebody has been sneaking in to my place and changing the difficulty level on Standoff when I'm not looking. I'm not so much "that good" as "get to choose which run I put up on the video". That was the best of eight attempts , two of which were successful, two of...

Bug (?) in Destroyer Rescue comms

I suppose I should showcase an instance of this happening. It always happens though, so this isn't hard - I even comment on it in this run (let's see if embed works):

Bug (?) in Destroyer Rescue comms

This might be a bug, it might not, I don't know. But when the TCS Breslau arrives on the scene in the second part of Destroyer Rescue (that is, the one of those two parts that happens if you save the Sao Paolo), she greets you with the comm "Captain, help us! They are shooting us!" despite the...

    It's Absolutely Enormous! (July 19, 2011)

Alternative solution: the Kilrathi didn't build it. It's a refitted Hari generation ship the Kilrathi added hyperdrives to when they worked out how to jump oversized ships for the Hakagas. (I imagine this comes into a large number of problems. I've not read False Colours).

    Big Damn Ending

The final cutscenes are actually missions and therefore show up in the flight history. The best ending is called "Next Year in Kilrah". I forget what the average ending is called but it isn't that.

    Crash on ejection

"Ralatha Strike", in Episode 2, if I eject and am picked up by friendly forces the game crashes on exiting the mission debrief screen. Win7, Intel quad-core i5 with some numbers after it, GeForce 550Ti. Wasn't recording at the time, for what that's worth. Known bug?

    Soo... About this Guide.

I've played Final Strike. It's...not really very different to Storming the Rock, just fewer fighters on both sides. You aren't missing much there. I'm not sure about four of my five favourite, but there's no doubt that "Flight of the Arrow" is a wonderful little surprise waiting for everyone...

    having trouble in chapter 5

I don't think it's sensible to call "target closest enemy" a Freespace command since it was in X-Wing in 1993 - also, it's in Standoff. Try the U key.

    Internal Files Question

Hah. Your putting the fiction files not in the Episode TREs is no match for my powers of looking through all the TREs until I found them. They were in the Config TRE. Why, I have no idea, but that is where they were.

    having trouble in chapter 5

This is almost certainly the hardest winning path mission in the game - certainly it's the only one I've not beaten on Nightmare, at any rate. In some ways it's probably slightly too epic a mission in that your success is a bit too dependent on how well your wingmen fly, but you can do a few...
