WC4 Mod For Homeworld 2 In The Works (June 5, 2006)

I think Bob has a point. In the WC games, the cap ships have to go down with 2 torp hits, or you would never be able to beat them since you essentially have to do it yourself. That doesn't really work very well within an RTS framework, because cap ships that die in a matter of seconds aren't...

The models are here: http://download.wcnews.com/files/wing4/wc4models.rar I think you could definitely make a decent set of plans using these, as long as you watch out for some strange symmetries (or lack thereof) in the meshes. At one point, I noticed the Hellcat was not quite symmetrical...

WC4 Mod For Homeworld 2 In The Works (June 5, 2006)

I couldn't get the new release to work either, but LIF's trick worked for me. I haven't had a chance to play it very much, but it looks great from what I've seen so far.

WC4 Mod For Homeworld 2 In The Works (June 5, 2006)

I can't get it to work either. The only thing I can think of on my/our end would be a version problem. I'm using 1.1.

The vertical stabilizer on planes like the Bf-109 was also offset to the side and not completely centered.

Misc Artwork for the Flight Demo

Asymmetric aircraft look odd because of aerodynamic necessities that make them harder to design and hence more unusual. Asymmetric spacecraft are just hunks of metal floating in space, so the requirements aren't quite as strict. As for asymmetric gun layouts, the most common thing I can think...

Misc Artwork for the Flight Demo

Would it be realistic to assume that we will be able to design our own icon and drop them into the "icon folder" to use? Might I suggest a few hints of color somewhere. I think it's clean enough for a ship operating in the Landreich, but perhaps adding some pinstriping or something...

Yeah, those foot wide panel lines aren't exactly the pinnacle of realism and detail. More WWII touches are always a good thing to my mind though. Good choice with the Bawidamann pinup.

Misc Artwork for the Flight Demo

While we're on the topic of WWI schemes, check out this site with a few color schemes seen on Albatrosses from Mark Miller: http://www.wwi-models.org/Images/Miller/render/Albatros/index.html I particularly like the black and white stripes.

Looks great Howard. Loaf, you keep mentioning geometric camo, and all I can think of is the dazzle camo used during WW2. Google images has plenty of results if you're unfamiliar with it.

The best way to do that would be to export some orthographic views of the geometry in a vector image format like .dwg or .eps, then clean it up and adjust line weights and such in Illustrator. Anyway, here's one quick idea I came up with for color schemes. Just a simple sun burst pattern...

StarLancer #1 Fastest Moving Game On Windows Marketplace

The surprise attacks in Starlancer and BSG are just like Pearl Harbor. The attacks crushed what they did hit, but there are some elements of the fleets that were elsewhere. I don't think it's too far fetched. Anyway, so this thread has inspired me to go back and play some Starlancer, and...

StarLancer #1 Fastest Moving Game On Windows Marketplace

My only real complaint about Starlancer besides a few crashes here and there was the amount of of torpedo interception missions, especially towards the end of the game. Other than that, I think it's great. If there's one game that is more "WWII in space" than WC, it's Starlancer.

    Question about modular components.

Why not? You won't know that they aren't until you play it, just as Plasteel and I won't know they are until we play it. However, after 15 years, it wouldn't hurt to have some added depth for people that want it. WC was pretty complicated and deep as a sim back in the day, but I don't see why...

    how will afterburners work?

Sounds good. As you can tell by my post in the "General Ideas" thread, I will definitely be the kind of person that will want to hit "the scoop key." That is definitely the easiest way of making it work for us "sim" people as well as people that want to play the "classic" way.

    how will afterburners work?

So just to clarify: The scoops will always be present in the game regardless of whether you want to hit "the scoop key" or not? When you say standard WC flight model, this equates to scoops full open, right?

    Medium Civilian Station WIP

Looking great so far, but I have a thought/question about these modular stations: If these things are going to be spread around at all sorts of minor planets, jump points, etc., will there maybe be a unique station or two at relatively major planets like Hell Hole?

    General ideas

This discussion of cap ship damage and my comments in the turret thread has raised some questions: How detailed will the damage model and ballistics model be? Since day 1 of the public announcement of Pioneer, it was stated that weapons will be individually destructible and you can have your...

    Medium Civilian Station WIP

It seems to me that things like that are integral to the station anyway. Certainly, they can be modeled to add detail, but they don't need to have the level of player interactivity as the hangar, etc. and they don't have the same effect on what you can do at the station.
