Wing Commander Standoff: Episode Five Released (August 11, 2009)

Good. What was a bit disappointing that I saw a poll on gamefaqs about which classic EA title should receive a sequel, and when I checked, Wing Commander had less than seven percent of the votes. Road Rash (why?) was the winner, followed by System Shock (the more obvious choice). OTOH, Road Rash...

Wing Commander Standoff: Episode Five Released (August 11, 2009)

In other news, I got the Finnish gaming media covered by getting my news tip published on www.pelit.fi How about you do the same for your countries? Let's spread the word and revive Wing Commander to the public eye, too!

    Problems? Post them here...

Now I feel slightly embarrassed, but relieved. During the years I'd forgotten that Standoff isn't stand-alone, but requires WC: Secret Ops (or rather, SO isn't installed at the same time). Whoops! Funnily enough, I noticed that in the news article I hinted at to pelit.fi Guess I got...

    Problems? Post them here...

Hmmm...nobody else has problems starting the game, but quite a bit of problems running it. Of course, that probably means an updated version won't fix my issue, whatever it is.

    Problems? Post them here...

Nope, nada, no luck with any of the graphics options. Hmmm...this is starting to look worrisome.

    Problems? Post them here...

Yup, did both, but no luck. Also, this is a new installation - I think I removed the old Standoff prologue a couple of years back - it's just that I was running it on the same hardware.

    Problems? Post them here...

Hmm. Well, it seems that I'm unable to start Standoff at all, which is strange considering that I was able to run the Prologue with the same setup earlier. It gives me the standard "Standoff.exe has caused an error blah blah blah" error message. And to save time, yes, I am running it on...

Wing Commander Standoff: Episode Five Released (August 11, 2009)

Hmm...is there any reason besides convenience we should wait for the megapack? Great job, in any case!

    Website Update, August 7th

Well, no big deal, we can wait if need be. Hmm. I think a project of this scale deserves attention in mainstream games sites, too - you got it handled? Enough interest for this project might just get the publishers interested in Wing Commander again. Who holds the license these days?

    Website Update, August 7th

Agreed, the sim missions can wait. If the bug only affects episode 5, how about still releasing the improved earlier episodes at least? I know I'll be playing the first four episodes for a good while before I get to 5.

    Website Update, August 7th

Yeah, I know many of you have done that, I've done the same with the unfortunate KotOR 2: Sith Lords Restoration project (haven't played the original because of it....and now it looks like another group fed up with waiting releases their own restoration first). What I meant that the two...

    Website Update, August 7th

You guys sure are nuts. On the other hand, a finished product of this level will sure look nice on the ol' alumni. I hope the completion of this mod will encourage other teams to finish theirs. I can't believe I've been waiting for this to come out for two years already. Looks like waiting...

    Episode 5 release date announcement

Finally the project draws to an end. And here I was thinking I'd get all the other episodes played in time for Episode 5, and you announce new cutscenes for Episode 1! Well, that's great news, and one can always wait a while.

Just a friendly word of encouragement...

Hey there, sometime last year I got the urge to play through all the WC games again after so many years. I completed WCI and WC2 and all the x-packs, and it was almost as fun as it was so long ago. Then, when it came time to play WCIII, I found your project, and I felt that it was a nice...
