    Ship Speeds

Local galactic rotation is 220 km/s. Suns move. Fast. Relative to each other. Measuring your speed relative to one star will likely be tens of kilometers per second different from the speed relative to another star. The Universe has no centre.

    Ship Speeds

From JMSNews . It's also on one of the DVD commentaries. I usually just chalk it up as "it's not *that* hard of sci-fi." And WC is downright marshmallowy, in that sense :) To me, the sound of your own weapons firing, or other weapons impacting your ship, makes perfect sense (you have a path...

Wing Commander 3 Joystick problem in Dosbox .63

My Wingman Extreme works fine with 0.63 and WC3, although I'm not using Windows. You might want to double-check the calibration in the control panel. Might also want to try moving the hat or throttle or twisting the rudder to see if that moves the x-axis in the calibration screen (wouldn't fix...

    Plasma Weapons

Petawatts, actually. "Behemoth is a series of linked, superconducting energy amplification conduits, focusing an output of five hundred million gigawatts into one lancing point."

    Plasma Weapons

Hmmm, shouldn't the fission cannon be in nJ/s or nW instead of nJs? (Wow, doesn't that drive home Wing Commander physics, or lack thereof...the charging current for this ridiculously powerful weapon wouldn't even light up an LED).

    Rachel creeps me out!

Geez, never knew this forum was for 21st century political jabs.... FWIW I was born in Britt (maybe two people who've posted so far know where that is...) and spent the night of 2 November in the rain in Copley...

    Most aggravating WC mission

I've heard that suggestion. I don't dare try it. Here's how I just finished it: Obviously take out the defenders ASAP; it helps to *not* fly at them but rather obliquely so that they come out from under the flak cover. Personally I find mass drivers work better than particle cannons for this...

    6,000 Marines???

I imagine 6000 would be a "full" complement, with 7000 being "we can fit them in without danger"--if for example they were taking on survivors from a destroyed ship. Of course, then there's the fun of "wing" in the sense of "flight of usually two fighters on a mission"--which was always the...

    Lead joystick in WC2

Just fine in WC1, including SM2. Fine in Descent. Perfect under anything in Linux (which is of course another kettle of fish). Seems to be a matter of how finicky the joystick calibration routine is.

    Lead joystick in WC2

Well, much mucky-muck later, here are my findings: The full range for my joystick (removing the pots and twisting them by hand) is X 4-86, Y 5-127 (from the BIOS routines). Actually plugged into the stick restricts the range somewhat. Interestingly enough, swapping the X and Y pots doesn't...

Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital joystick USB ADAPTOR

The Logitech Wingman Extreme Digtal joysticks "talk" digital even when plugged into a gameport (thus the "digital" in the name); they use Logitech's own protocol for that. It's likely that a gameport->USB converter designed for generic joysticks won't work with the Logitech. It should have come...

    Melek for sale !

I tell you, you have to blow that guy up SO MANY TIMES. I always killed him both times in 3....I think the last two missions of 2 are a great ad for "why you should shoot escape pods."

    Lead joystick in WC2

My joystick response is horrible in WC2. Just to test it out, I'll launch, kill speed, turn to face the Concordia. Then I throw the joystick over and count off how long it takes to turn a complete circle--it's about twice as long as it takes using the keyboard. Bluehair's hand only moves a...

    Help with WC2 final mission

bashes face against wall Y'know, it's a heck of a lot harder when you're only turning at half rate because for some reason the game isn't cooperating with your joystick. I wondered why all the confed craft seemed a lot more sluggish than in 1....

MoSlo? CPUKiller? How do I run WC1 besides SM2?

I run WC1 by disabling L1 and L2 cache in my BIOS (labelled "internal cache" and "external cache" OMM, which is a bit of a misnomer these days) and then running the 1.4 demo version of moslo at 80%: moslo /80 wc.exe (PIII 933, incidentally). moslo without the cache disabled just won't quite...
