I'd heartily recommend taking a look at AngelScript; I used to use Lua before finally discovering it, and I didn't look back even once... I'm not going to try to sell you on it though - just point out that it exists.[...] LUA is pretty simple to understand and quite widely used. Hopefully it will be a good addition to the backend.![]()
I just googled it and..... Well I might be rewriting to AngelScript now. FML. LolI'd heartily recommend taking a look at AngelScript; I used to use Lua before finally discovering it, and I didn't look back even once... I'm not going to try to sell you on it though - just point out that it exists.

Hey @Muz1234!How do you manage to extract audio files from the Mega CD?

Would it be possible that I could extract Japanese voices from Japan version? And can I edit the text from the game to Japanese texts?Hey @Muz1234!
First I had to extract the .cue file of the SegaCD then use HCL's SegaCD Audio extractor https://hcl.solsector.net/segacd/segarip_v0.1.zip and that got about 90% or them. I was still missing the in-flight coms and some other random lines, such as the funeral scenes "Fire" clip, and the ending audio. For those I needed a program called PCMSnitcher. (I think, I'm not on that computer right now. If I can figure out where I got it I'll update and add the link) Basically, what it does it convert binary files into .wav files. I then had to scrub through glitchy audio to find each line I was missing. Fun fact, the in-flight coms are played at a low bitrate so the are essentially sped up, I had to manually slow each one down, compress, normalize, compress, normalize etc. until they sounded passable, all the fun stuff.![]()

What about the texts? Can it be convert into Japanese from English? It should be possible to extract the Japanese voices from the Japan Version. I haven't tried it myself but I don't see why not. I'm currently going through a rewrite and am trying to come up with a better way to insert custom voice options. Mostly so I can add the Super Wing Commander voices with just a switch of an int, and potentially AI voices to expand the series.
First you need to open and extract the .iso or .bin with something like PowerISO. This will give you all the game files but the ones we want are the .DAT files.
RIG.DAT - (Right seat Dialogue)
LEF.DAT - (Left Seat Dialogue)
BAR.DAT - (Bar Dialogue)
OFF.DAT - (Office Dialogue)
MED.DAT - (Medal Dialogue)
BRI.DAT - (Briefing Dialogue)
DEB.DAT - (De-Briefing Dialogue)
LAND.DAT - (Landing Dialogue)
FUNWM.DAT - (Funeral Wing Man Dialogue)
FUNPC.DAT - (Funeral Player Dialogue)
MW#####.DAT - (Story Dialogue)
FLIGHTFM#.DAT - (In Flight Coms)
With the SegaCDRip.exe tool you need to click and drag the desired SegaCD .DAT file that you extracted on top of the .exe and it will extract the audio right into the directory.
I also found the other tool for anything that the SegaCDRip tool does not find.
https://github.com/ArtemioUrbina/Snatcher-PCM2WAV
With this you need to copy the .DAT file and paste it in the extracted folder with Snatcher and rename it to PCMLD_01.BIN and then run spcm2wav.exe and it will create a new .wav with all the data as a .WAV file. If there is any audio in there it will find it but it's a pain to scrub through garbled data but it did helped me find missing data.
Hopefully this gets you on the correct path. Good Luck!![]()
I did some experiments injecting Japanese text in the game, unfortunately, it would crash the game. It has to do with the game not having the characters in it's font table and I'm not sure how to inject other fonts. What can work is English subtitles with Japanese audio. Was the original Wing Commander or the Kilrathi Saga ever release in Japanese? If it was I should be able to make Wing Loader Compatible with that version. What about the texts? Can it be convert into Japanese from English?
My WC3 upgrade patch replaces some files with the North American Kilrathi Saga. This could be what is causing that. I'll see if I can hunt down a Japanese copy and do some tests for you.I have just tried WingLoader with Wing Commander 3 with Japanese videos, somehow the cut-scenes are all in Japanese but in-flight game is still in English...
I believe Japanese version of WC1 is for TM Towns and Mega CD...
