Here's some news that certainly rates a solid 11 out of 10 on the Awesome Meter! Veteran composer George Oldziey is working his tail off to bring the music of Wing Commander to the live orchestra. Although there are many details yet to work out, the target is to perform an arrangement of classic Wing Commander 3 & 4 sometime next year in Austin. We can't wait! Check out CIC Music or our Infoburst Interview with Mr. Oldziey to tide you over in the mean time. -- Original update published on April 25, 2010
Between stuff like this and George Sanger getting Wing One out the door after many years, I'm very very impressed by the dedication of the Wing Commander musicians. WC is just one of numerous successful projects that they've been involved in, but they keep coming back with surprises for us Wingnuts.
This has to be some of the most awesome news I've had the pleasure of reading since Arena came out. Either they better make this into MP3s or I'll have to start saving now to make it to somewhere with a symphony willing to play it.
I second that! I'm not wild about the medley-idea - depends on the length of the fragments, I guess - but it's an exciting trend. I wonder when they'll give Myst a thorough airing out in the concert hall?
I think the music from WCII would sound totally awesome too. Man I hope he gets the sheet music published. It'd be an awesome collectible to then try to get an autographed copy!
This is going to be the best thing ever. Late next year... definitely time to save money. REALLY considering going.
I wonder if this should be something that could be passed on to the Video Games Live! concert. Its a pretty well-known traveling event and they seem to add new things to their repertoire every year or so. And it would be nice to have a VGM concert that wasn't so heavy with the damn Final Fantasy music! EDIT: Wow, they even put out a CD... http://www.screenarchives.com/title_detail.cfm/ID/10625/VIDEO-GAMES-LIVE-VOL-1/
Make sure to record a CD, DVD, whatever but make sure its recorded in some good quality. I doubt that I will have the chance or money to go there but I would definitly buy a CD.
