Wing Commander Multiplayer

<h4>I just wanted to say that even if EA releases another Wing Commander, the multiplayer would suck.<br>EA to this day still hasn't made a game where the multiplayer works well.<br>Look at Need for Speed or the Superbike or F1 series.<br>None of the have stable multiplayer for even 8 players.<br>So i think the only way we're going to play a good game of WC online is to turn the project over to Violition (FreeSpace2).</h4>

HTML is diasbled, but you can use vBoarc code for similar effects.

EA wouldn't make a Wing Commander game, though, Origin Systems -- a subsidiary of EA -- would. Companies under EA have done lots of great multiplayer games... Red Alert 2, for example, is utterly enjoyable.

Of course, for those of us old enough to remember, there already *was* an excellent multiplayer Wing Commander game...:)

Any multiplayer is better than no multiplayer. Plus, it has all the essentials, co-op, team vs. tean, and deathmatch. Not that the game doesn't suck in some ways(missiles WAY overpowered), no game is perfect.

i think what would be good about a multiplayer wing commander game would be HOW GOOD ARE WE REALLY compared to REAL people and not a computer...
that's what would make it interesting and if u didn't like getting beaten or beating, u team up and just whack some AI butt

Then why isn't anybody playing Starlancer multiplayer? You end up chasing eachother's tail, looping forever, until eventually one guy hits an asteroid or gets a lucky shot in. The only fun part is the co-op, deathmatches get boring real quick.

Yeah, the only sort of WCish deathmatch I can envision being cool is one in which whole armies are put together and have to fight, of course this means a lot of players. I heard X Wing vs Tie Fighter was kinda like this, anyone here tried that one?

Multiplayer WC

I think there should be some multiplayer action. That way you could get like 8 players (each controlling a pilot of the Victory) in WC III. This would be great especially for the bombing run on Kilrah. Have like 8 Exacliburs go after Thrakhath and Hobbes and the escorting fighters. Whoever controls Blair gives the orders and such. And 8 players is more of a "wing" than 2 players so you are more of a Wing Commander with 8 players than with 2.

It would also be fun to engage Seether having 8 players gang up on him.

Chip: Let's see now: 8 Excaliburs against IIRC 1 Bloodfang, 1 Thunderbolt VII & maybe 3-4 Paktahns and Darkets. Now remind me what's so fun about this slaughterfest?
"It would also be fun to engage Seether having 8 players gang up on him."
Are you really that useless? (j/k) ;) Seriously do you really want to be gunning down Seether's shields, see a missile fly by hitting and finishing him off, then hear "Chalk one up for the Maniac!!! Little slow on the trigger there Ace?!!!"

To Penguin's last message

Actually, I was thinking in the bombing run for Kilrah, there could be more fighters in addition to the Pakthans, Darkets, Hobbes, Thrak, etc.. Putting the game on nightmare setting and just using the fighters originally programmed is in my opinion (even though I beat WC III with just Flash and myself on nightmater setting and Flash didn't get shot down) fair using 8 Excaliburs.
Also, in WC IV, I remember in the novel it was a clash between the BWs & the ConFed Cabal. If there's to be 8 players going after Seether, he could have 1 escorting Dragons fly with him for every additional player going with me. On the hardest setting, without invincibility, I did cloak and lead him up to those Arrows and I engaged him and all and I beat them all. And comments from Maniac would not bother me. :) I would also like to send a few fake drone fighters to prematurely distract Seether to get my guys in behind his fighters. :)

That wouldn't fit with the story... Only the Gold squadron was qualified to fly the Excals, Flash, Vaquero, Cobra and one or two other pilots were dead, while Hobes went renegade. So the three other Excals that flew with Blair were the only ones with pilots.:)

Seether is easy enough to kill as it is, what would be fun about having your 8 wingman kill him even quicker?

Plus, only one can head to the planet... unless there are 7 more magical cloaks that were somehow created.

CB: In WC, you get to play out the story. Let's see now, there was Blair, Cobra, Flash, Flint, Maniac, Vaqueto, Vagabond. Hobbes turned renegade and killed Cobra. Vaqueto only gets killed if you chase Hobbes. Seems like we now got 6 out of 8 pilots to play. I suppose 2 other players could play the top 2 pilots of the other squadrons.

There's always the *official* storry that's given to us by one thing or another. In this case it's the WC3 novel. So, Flash/Cobra/Vaquero always are killed and Hobes goes renegade. Plus there are two other pilots that get killed earlier, both of them in Locanda IIRC.

On easier difficulties it wouldn't make a difference, and if someone tried it on the hardes difficulty it would be impossible. Unless the friendly AI was changed, that is.

If it happened as you say, Chip, you'd be spoiling the whole idea of the WC game, ie Blair the one-man-navy blasting all the kitties to dust, all by himself.

Too, the BW's were considered hostiles, esp in Earth space, until Blair could get down and clear everything up.

CB: No problem, a player can fly by himself or with just one or two others. Origins could program the game so that only a select # of fighters appear at Nav points based upon the current # of friendly fighters going with Blair.

CB: No problem, we'll just go right down the light of the top pilots on board the Victory and/or the escort vessels.

A few points.
first I heard somewhere that the idea of multiplayer option for single player mission.

second I thought it was agreaded that the games override the novels in a conflict. However I do agree that others with blaird would defeat the games style. For it to be more presentable it would have to be more freespace like which would defeat the objective of it being a wc game.
