Wing Commander games are now Bestsellers on GOG!

Good news everyone! As of my last check, Wing Commander 1&2 now leads the shooter category in downloads and Wing Commander III is already in third! And overall, Wing Commander 1&2 is second, right behind Dungeon Keeper 2. Wing Commander III is sixth.

Was I meant to read that entire post in the voice of Profession Farnsworth? :D

That's great news. Although, check out this list - http://www.gog.com/en/catalogue#all_genres/order/bestselling/ It has the Wing Commander games on a much lower position. My guess is that the front page you've taken a screenshot of is best selling games in the last x number of days (7? 30?). The link I posted would appear to be a total sales figure. I'm guessing it's done on units sold, not profit as the top 6 games are free or were given out for free as part of an earlier promotion.

Don't get me wrong, I'm going to enjoy watching the WC games slowly rise up that main list. But it's unrealistic to think that any of the Wing Commander games would have beaten a game like Fallout in terms of total sales yet, given that Fallout was one of the very early games released - I bought it off GOG in April 2009.

It's hard to tell what any of it means, honestly. I can't figure out the categories on the front page at all; it has to be something like 'in the last X weeks' or some such.

Here are the overall rankings, out of 318 games on the service:

14 ULTIMA™ 4: QUEST OF THE AVATAR
53 SID MEIER'S ALPHA CENTAURI™
62 DUNGEON KEEPER™
100 DUNGEON KEEPER™ 2
107 WING COMMANDER ®: PRIVATEER ™
120 ULTIMA® UNDERWORLD 1+2
138 CRUSADER: NO REMORSE™
157 WING COMMANDER™ 1+2
211 WING COMMANDER™ 3 HEART OF THE TIGER™
228 NOX™
259 ULTIMA™ 4+5+6
262 ULTIMA™ 1+2+3

... but even then I'm not sure what it means, because I've been told that the Wing Commander III sales are the most impressive of the bunch (maybe comparative first day sales? Projections?) and that that's going to play an important role in future licensing.

Ultima 1-6 bottoming out the chart seems like bad news, though--this whole thing began as a way for EA to promote Ultima.

Yeah - I'm guessing you nailed it, LOAF - I'd say it's first week sales or some such. Ultima 4 was given away free, IIRC, so that's why it's so far up the list...

Looks like they unintentionally promoted Wing Commander that cant be a bad thing for the community

Also worth noting that it doesn't seem to be in real time--there'll be "jolts" in the chart positions at seemingly random times. Possibly GOG's way of telling us this isn't really our business... :)

... another interesting metric might be Facebook likes--but I'm at work and can't get the numbers for that (no Facebook, how do we live?)

I dont have a facebook account anymore I did miss it for the first few weeks but its like a breath of fresh air now

Honestly, I'm not a fan either... BUT I do use it to stay in touch with a lot of former Origin guys, so I can't see being able to get rid of it any time soon.

I'm absolutely, completely addicted to Twitter, though. Everyone should follow @banditloaf and @wccic.

Ugh, I'm suffering from general Facebook fatigue - and I don't even have a personal account! All our clients insist on "driving additional revenue to our brand awareness initiatives through aggressive participation in social graphing." Wtf does that even mean? Try talking about eCPLs (effective cost per likes) for hours on end! bllarrghh.

I actually WOULD try Twitter though. I dunno why, just seems like the things folks 'tweet' about are so crazy it's funny.

Nooo, Twitter will envelope your lives.

Actually, @WCCIC was a social networking success story today, randomly meeting both a guy who tested WC2 SNES for Origin /and/ the man who designed the original CIC layout years and years ago.
