George Oldziey's campaign to create a high fidelity remaster of his famous Wing Commander music has reached another big milestone! The digital reorchestrations that he has been working on to fill out the full album are now complete, and a download link has been sent out to fans who backed the project. If you didn't receive it, log in to Kickstarter to access the files. They include seven more tracks that very nicely complement the ten recordings that were performed by a live orchestra last year. This supplemental package includes lots of great foundational music that players of WC3&4 should readily identify with. They're a joy to listen to! George has provided the full scoop below. He's now working on getting the physical album discs into contributor's hands by the end of the year. Fans have had to wait a bit to get this far, but the audio goodness is worth it!

Greetings my VERY patient friends!

I hope you all enjoy the sample based bonus tracks that I'd promised you all. They obviously don't have the amazing breadth and, as conductor Allan Wilson so poignantly said in his interview, "soul and spirit" of music recorded with a real orchestra, I think they they are light years ahead of the original versions of 20 years ago!

Next step is to finish off the physical CD, which I promise to have shipped out to the appropriate tier levels by the holidays, along with the other bonus prizes that were bid upon.

Again, thank you to all of you for your amazing support! Shall we think about volume 2 for next year? :)

Musically yours,

George

If you haven't yet seen the documentary that chronicles the effort to get this music recorded, be sure to check it out below!

I pledged $50 to the campaign - did I miss when the album itself was released, or has that yet to happen?

The digital album is now complete and ready for you to download. I *think* the physical album required a $60 donation and that hasn't been released yet.

Where exactly is the download? Are those the files that George had in his update #60, or are they somewhere else?

There should be several older 'backer only' updates with the download links in them. He only linked the new tracks in the latest update. You can look through the previous updates on the kickstarter website if you can't find the old emails.

Alright, thanks.

I backed fundrazr and never got the e-mail about the first batch for some reason. If you can't find the old e-mail the link is exactly the same as the new one but with _bonus_tracks.zip replaced with _hq.zip

I'll need to give these another listen later but first impressions are that these arrangements seem a little more adventurous than the ones George used for the live performances. I'll be clear: all of this is great, especially having familiar Wing Commander pieces played by live orchestra and choir. But I have the feeling that George might have been a bit conservative in his arrangements for the live performance as I don't recall anything startlingly different about those. Maybe because he was working on these himself, George had the time and freedom to tinker around with the arrangements more - adjusting a synthesised render is a lot quicker and easier than stopping an orchestra and asking them to change a particular section of the performance. Even if the synthesised pieces lack the 'soul and spirit' of the live ones.

Now if we can get these updated pieces onto the games themselves thst would be sweet. Oh and somehow up the resolution during missions too. I'm a dreamer i know.
