Wing Commander 2 For SNES

hey, ive been checkin out WC CIC for the last year or so, and ive been diggin out my old WC games to have another round of fun, but i have a question. In my search to find different WC games and platforms to play on I heard of WC2 for SNES, was this ever really produced or just worked on and then discarded. Thanks for any information that anyone may have

It was never mass produced, and many places also refer to the Secret Missions as WC2 for the SNES.

How do the SNES games stack up Vs. the PC games? Is it worth having my brother give back the SNES or NES (If there is one on NES)? I've played WC3 and 4 on my Mac and am planning on getting a good laptop that's also good for gaming, so I definitely plan on getting WCP. I've just been considering purchasing some of the older WC games, and I'm wondering whether I should buy some of the older Mac games (Super Wing Commander I think- any other good ones for Mac?) or if there are some worthy ones on NES or SNES that I should get instead.

There are no NES Wing Commander games. You should get them all, at least to observe the slight differences and new additions.

I had the SNES Wing Commander and WC Secret Missions several years ago- if you are going to pick one, go with the PC version- the biggest problem I remember with the SNES versions of the game is that you could only get close to one other ship at a time (I think it was a limitation imposed by the SNES's hardware). Otherwise, the games were nearly identical (IIRC, the only other difference was that the jalthi in the SNES versions of the game was a salthi repainted green instead of using the PC jalthi sprite) If you want a really different WC experience, see if you can find a 3DO- I have one as well as the 3DO Super WC and WC3. BOTH games play far differently then the PC variants!! (The guns are different, the in-flight physics are different, and many of the missions have been slightly altered).

I would ech Mr. Spertallica's thoughts -- Wing Commander 3 3DO is a remarkbly different experience from the PC version.

3DO was console that launched in the mid-nineties.

it was overhyped and expensive, didn't catch on too well.

thats about all i know.

I definately preferred the PC version of Wing Commander to the SNES version, especially with the ability to use a joystick.

You can get a joystick for the SNES.

(And if you have a 3DO, do yourself a favor and track down a 3DO Flightstick -- makes WC3 infinitely easy to control.)

The graphics in the 3DO version definetly are nowhere near as clean as the PC, and LOAF is right- the 3DO joystick does make it easier to control. Ultimately, I personally liked the PC version of WC3 better (for the most part, there were a couple 3DO missions that I liked better then their PC counterparts, especially the 3DO mission where you escort the Victory AND her escorting destroyers through a blockade of destroyers and corvettes during (IIRC) the first nebula series of missions) but that being said, WC3 3DO has different enough gameplay that it is definetly worth the play if you are a WC fan- it's not bad, it's just different (though again, the polygons in 3DO were nasty looking)

Now I just need to find some cheap 3DO and a copyu of the 3DO WC games :)

Probably, the PC versions of WC games are always better... maybe SWC is better than WC1, But they're REALLY different.
