why was the Arrow's speed lowered after Armada?

Well yeah... but I don't think there were any Excaliburs on the Lexington, were there?

AFAIK, only Hellcats and Longbows...
Not that we see, no. But that's my point: three years after its introduction, and the Excalibur is still a niche fighter? Even with the military budget cuts after the war, I would have to think that the Excal would be kept on. Even with its higher cost per unit, it far superceeds any fighter before it, and could potentially replace several Arrows or Hellcats per Excal.

Considering the importance of the mission the Lexington was on, it seems foolish to equip it with anything less than the best possible ships and weaponry.

Perhaps the programmers felt that the Hellcat would provide everyone with more than enough incentive to defect to the Border Worlds where you get to fly Banshees. :)

Actually, I never really got the hang of the Banshee. I turned on autoslide and couldn'd figure out how to turn it off. :) I tried it again with the WCP conversion, but that's wasn't good either - one mission and I swore I'd never fly another Banshee, unless of course I could get the Scattergun to work. :) I ended up flying Vindicators for most of WCIV.

Still, I see your point. The only reason I went to Speradon was to fly the Bearcat. ^_^ Man, thse were good ships. They just don't stack up well enough nowadays.

I kind of liked the Banshee, but I'm more of a Vindicator type...still, I prefer interceptors, and if the Banshee had even two Tachyons, it would have been spectacular.

The Excal was very expensive, and the Lex didn't have any. It's not that they were a niche fighter, it's just that Tolwyn was funneling them to the Black Lance...

Perhaps the BL contingent on the Lex had some Excals, but it looked like they were using mainly Black Hellcats.

I keep seeing this brought up, but I don't recall anywhere in the games or novels where the Excalibur is noted as being excessively pricey.

Well, we don't KNOW that; we might just not see them.

I believe Flash's interview in Victory Streak calls it "pricey".

Compared with the other ships, yes, but it's supposed to be cutting edge technology. You're supposed to be a great hero for Confed, you're on a vitally important mission (where stealh technology might come in handy) so what do they give you? A Hellcat!

For the time, being brand new, perhaps. But after a couple of years, it should be standard.

And how much confidence do you have in the claim of a dolt like Flash...? :)

Only because he was too much of a pansy to go out and fight on the lines....

I can just see his acadamy report;

"Keep him away from live ammo", "most likely to be killed by friendly fire" and "please take him away"

I'm not sure about that... How can you lower the price of a F-22 Raptor? Even if you build 2000 it will still be "pricey", to say the least.

Wow... Test pilots are pansy's now?

Well no, not necessarily ... just the ones who are using "mustn't damage the expensive, classified fighter craft" as an excuse to snooze during an emergency scramble...

Maybe the Lex didn't have any, but I don't believe she was the Flag of Confed, to say the least. :) Anyway, I'm sure that after you build a couple thousand Raptors or so the price will come down somewhat...initial tooling costs and such. ;)

On another note, I noticed they lowered the damage of the Mass Driver fromn WCIII\IV to P. Of course, they also extended the range and all...Prophecy turret guns have four times that of Kilrathi War models.

Does anybody have the specs for the Fusion Cannon and its maximum damage? Because the Charging Mass does 300, tops...I'd expect the Dragon model to be something in the 600s...
