why was the Arrow's speed lowered after Armada?

Shouldn't that be TWO extra ion guns, and SIX more missile mounts? Call me crazy, but I could swear the Arrow in WCIII has two lasers, two ions, and 4x2 missiles (4 dual hardpoints)....

Your're right OPhoenix, it does has 2 ions and 6 more missle hardpoints...I really should double check my stats when posting after taking my allergy medicine.

the arrow from armada sounds wimpy. but the speed sounds good. how does it compare overall with the ferret?

I've got the specs from the Ship Database here.

And yes, I just picked up Victory Streak the other day, and it, at least, says that the WCIII model carries 4x2 missiles, which makes it superior to a Hellcat in all respects but protection.

To be fair, the HellcatV also has heavier guns in the game than the Arrow (2 Ion and 2 Neutron instead of 2 Laser and 2 ion).
Still I think the Arrow is a superior craft to the Hellcat.

Superior in protection and guns then... inferior for the rest...

Does protection include shields as well, or just armor?

I think that with the Hellcat you can support more damage of the Shields.

Being that the Hellcat is a Medium fighter compared to the light fighter Arrow, I'd say the Hellcat has better shields.

Not to disbute you but in both wc3 and 4 aboard the lady lex and tin can sally you launch under power at the speed you choose

On earth, fighter aircraft require a cat launch to get them above stalling speed before they hit the end of the deck. In space, however, there is nothing to prevent a ship just crawling off the flight deck at whatever speed it chooses.

So launching via cat is really a question of 'want' rather then 'can'. They 'want' to get you off the flight deck quickly because:
a) The flight deck is a busy place and you're not there on a pleasure cruise. They want you off the deck and into space asap.
b) They (I believe) have to lower the shields to lauch fighters. Lowered shields = vulnerable carrier, so the longer you take to launch, the longer the carrier is vulnerable. This is especially true with stealth fighters around. With a cat shot, they can time the launch exactly, so the shields are down for a minimum of time.

Well, in WC3 and WC4, ships are seen taking off and landing through the shields, which also seem to be holding the atmosphere in on the flight deck (a la Star Trek). Maybe sheilds are transparent to other objects within shields ... the energy bubbles just sorta slide through each other.

But the Hellcat is also the crapiest medium fighter in any WC game! I'd rather have an Arrow or even a Hornet or an Epee over that!

Opinions vary...to each their own. I rather liked the Hellcat for many of the earlier missions in WCIII. Though I don't quite understand why we had to use it initially in WCIV; seems to me the Excalibur would have been more prominent. *shrug*

Well yeah... but I don't think there were any Excaliburs on the Lexington, were there?

AFAIK, only Hellcats and Longbows...
