Welcome, Colonel

Delance

Victory, you say?
Well, now I'm a colonel here. To celebrate it, I'll post a very cool briefing from WC3 that begins with this thread subject.

TOLWYN
Welcome, Colonel.

As you may or may not know, we are currently enroute to the Torgo System, where we will rendezvous with... destiny.

Gentlemen... I give you the Confederation’s finest achievement... The Behemoth. After a decade of secret research and development, our greatest minds have created the device that will spell doom for the Kilrathi.

The Behemoth is a series of linked, superconducting energy amplification conduits, focusing an output of five hundred million gigawatts into one lancing point. Any target at the end of that point is destroyed...

EISEN
Even a planet...

TOLWYN
Yes, Captain. Even a planet.

We would have liked another year or two for testing and development but, unfortunately, circumstances have forced me to deploy the weapon now.

BLAIR
And might I ask why, Admiral?

TOLWYN
You should know the answer to that question more than anyone else, Colonel.

The classified and bitter truth is the Confed has been losing the war this past year. If the current trend continues, the Kilrathi will walk the Earth in six months, maybe less. So, the Behemoth must be pressed into service earlier than anticipated.

BLAIR and EISEIN look to each other

TOLWYN
Because of this accelerated deployment, the ship’s defensive systems are... how can I put this... somewhat incomplete. There are a few, uh, soft spots, located here, and here, where the shields are thin and there’s been no time to complete keel mounts or laser turrets.

I expect you to be especially aware of these areas, Colonel! I will be your job to protect and defend this ship. It should be looked upon as the Confederation’s last-ditch effort to win the war outright!

TOLWYN Receives a message from the ear plug.

TOLWYN (to microphone)
Yes, yes, thank you, I understand.

TOLWYN (to BLAIR and EISEN).
We have arrived at Torgo, gentlemen, where I had hoped for a nice smooth rendezvous with the Behemoth, but as is their wont, the Kilrathi have spoiled the party. Colonel, this is undoubtedly the most important mission you’ve ever flown in your life! You must defend the Behemoth at all costs! I want a magnum launch, all fighters up! Are we clear?

BLAIR
Yes, sir.

Awesome transcription.. I was just role playing this scene with some of my Wing Commander students on Sunday. I'll have to forward them this thread.

Wow... I bet your Gamestop is the coolest one ever, with all your students there being your bitches and all

It actually just sorta happened.. it wasn't planned or anything. We were just discussing the introduction of the Behemoth and things came together.

They dont want to play "old" games as they say. They cant understand that WC is a classic epic game....well ill use violence next time and force them to play them all,one by one and see 100 times the DVD movie (they are unlucky cause I got every wc ,expansion and some in more than 1 formats :D )

Suggested strategy: Get them started with the books. If you can get them wanting to find out how the story fits together, you've got them hooked.

Well I thought about that...but they will probably ask me to translate them first :p

Maybe its my fault too. They are tired of this "Wing Commander" thing Im always talking about, even my girlfriend argues! they hate WC :P

Yes, Chris forces his gaming beliefs on friends and employees.

Like you mentioned, novels was the way to do it. I've still had trouble getting them into the time consuming games, but most of them have taken to the novels, tv show, movie, etc, like wildfire.

Well I showed em the movie,a couple of WCA episodes..... but didnt work :(

The books are my only chance.... lol :p
