WCP Fighter Roll Rates

Why does WCP have higher roll-rates than WC-1, WC-2, WC-3, and WC-4 for the same yaw and pitch rates?

Far more advanced fighters? Don't forget in WC3-4 (save the Excal and the Dragon) you're flying rather old fighters. This is especially true in WC4 when you fly border world ships. Most of these things are falling apart with out of date weaponry.

As I understand it, the rates given in the WC 1, 2, Academy and Armada manual are not the real stats (just try it out: it does not take you that long to turn your Raptor) but only for comparison, whereas the WC 3 + rates are the real stats.

And since WCP is almost ten years after WC 4, I see no problem with increased manoeuvrability. Especially since the numbers are not that much higher. The Vampire and Panther even have moving engines to explain their superior pitch/yaw rate.

Yeah Mekt, but even the ones that do not have moving segments had notibly higher roll-rates than pitch and yaw.

I think WCP was simply trying to for a more realistic feel. Then when they added back the WC-4 fighters, they just retained the Thud and Excalibur's specs though.

Oops sorry, I just realized that I misunderstood your intial question: you were asking specifically about the roll rates.

Still, my answer would be the same: it's roughly ten years after WC 4 and manoeuvrability increased for all three rates, the roll rate just had the biggest jump.

If you look at a rolling Vampire you'll see that the pods tilt in opposite directions. That would definitely help the roll rate.

But even ships that did NOT have moving parts to boost roll-rate still had higher roll-rates than yaw or pitch.

True.

My guess is that since WCP was something of a fresh start, they felt free to make changes to things like roll rates and shields (no more side shields, just fore and aft).

Okay, but the ships' stats still make perfect sense.

Is it a crime that fighters can rotate better now than they did before? All they have to do is stick a few more maneuvering jets on them.

That said, the ships with movable engines have stats that *make sense.*

The Panther's movable engine gives it an extremely high yaw rate... even above that of its roll (which makes sense because the Panther's engine does not help its roll).

The Vampire's movable engine give it both an extremely high pitch and roll rate, while the yaw rate is still "normal" (which makes sense because the Vampire's engines do help its roll as well).

Why do you keep trying to find problems where none exist?
