WCIII gets thumbs up from AVGN

I was watching an episode for the Angry Video Game Nerd regarding the 3DO, specifically about some really crappy game called "Plumbers Don't Wear Ties." Before going into the game he introduces the console and some of the games. About 3:30 in he gives a nod to WCIII.

Here's a link beginning at 3:15. :)

I am extremely sorry that you have to watch through these things to find a Wing Commander nod.

I'll give kudos to this 'angry internet person' for at least picking something horrific to bash on.

I tried to watch the rest of the video, thanks for the find, and I'm glad he didn't slate WC3, but for that weird game alone - I demand the last four minutes of my life back. :)

Now I know that I'm not the only Wingnut who watches The Nerd. Yea, Plumbers was pretty bad, but the mention of WCIII in this episode is what got me into the Wing Commander Universe

I, for one, am glad these reviews exist. I was moments away from heading over to Best Buy to pick up a softcore porn Mario Brothers parody for my 3DO, all the while laboring under the misapprehension that it was sure to be a quality game.

I've watched AVGN since the first episode released. James Rolphe (the Nerd) does a pretty good job of reviewing some bad games; rather, he criticizes the crappy elements some games that make them unbearable to play. But he maintains that this is purely entertainment and some people don't realize that the Nerd is just a persona. It's still fun to watch his reviews though.

It's not often that I'll be alone reading forum posts on the internet and literally laugh out loud heartily, but your execution of words can be genious.

Woah! That is a magazine with some smart readers.

Actually, that's just about the best 'top #' classic games list I've seen in many years. Good work, PC Games.

Looks like Privateer is #35, if my attempt to read German can be trusted (and it can not).

You're right, Loaf. Privateer is #35.

And is it just me, or was that the dawn of SciFi/Simulator-games? Just look at that list of games just included in that ranking:
  • Imperium Galactica
  • The Dig
  • Ascendancy
  • Raptor
  • Privateer
  • X-Com
  • Schleichfahrt
  • Mechwarrior 2
  • Imperium Galactica
  • Descent 2
  • Rebel Assault
  • Syndicate
  • System Shock
  • X-Wing
  • Wing Commander

It was a great time and shows, that the interest for such games is still high. While not as high as in the mid-1990s.

Well, simulators and simulator-like action games were very popular at that time, especially in Germany.
I remember there were even special issues of gaming magazines that included only flight sims and space sims in the early to mid-90s.
