WC4 Remake

While I'm here, wanted to ask (I know it may have been answered somewhere else, and I just missed it over the years) will there be any sort of widescreen (16:9) support mod, or should I hope Flawless Widescreen comes up with something ?
You should give the demo a shot! Widescreen is already fully supported. :)

You will make it!

Thanks. We're increasingly not too worried about being able to make it in the sense of having a playable version, but there is so much room for polish. The worst case scenario would be releasing and having people say X looked better or Y sounded better in the original, and even just the presentation being inconsistent in quality. We want to do like the 90's and get the game right on launch day (but not like Privateer 2 with a note in the box).

If anyone is interested, I did a video simulating what TrackIR might look like in the WC4 remake demo. It's not a real TrackIR implementation, all I did was run a FreePIE script that bound my TrackIR input to a vJoy device, and bound it to the in-game camera panning controls. It's restricted a bit by the deadzone and on how far you can actually pan the camera, but it's fun and it definitely feels more natural than binding the camera to an analog stick.

On that note, I noticed I could get a pseudo off-boresight missile lock as long as I am looking at the target, I don't think this was intentional but it sounds like it could be fun.

The engine noise is a little loud, sorry, didn't notice until after the recording.

That's really cool, thanks for sharing. After release I will either rework the engine into an opensourceable state or we can invite people to the private repo to add features like that.

(Or if after release anyone wants to contribute some TrackIR hardware I can do it myself. I have VR headsets a plenty so I plan to add VR support atleast).

Update-wise I can't speak for the whole team, but I know the amount of free time varies and it seems to have been hovering on the less-fun end of that, for pretty much all of us. A lot of tech and art work is required for the remade planetary missions, to bring them into line quality-wise with everything else - I believe that's perhaps the biggest chunk of work left. Still, things are certainly getting there.

I know Pedro's been absolutely flat out with his company's game releasing soon, and I'm going to hazard a guess that he didn't know the timeline for that in advance...

For my part, I'm gearing up to tackle the new game AI... First though I really wanted to build a little editor so I could easily build test scenarios to help with the development, so that's what I'm currently working on.

I'm hoping that this work leads to an editor that the whole community can use - for stock WC4 and the remake... Ideally all of the mainline WC games over time. That's my intent anyway, we'll see what happens - if it does come together it might drop before the remake releases, or possibly after, I'm really not sure. I don't have any idea about timelines in general, but we're doing our best. :D

I'm not sure what else to say... You already asked - on this very page no less - and already got an answer.

To quickly reiterate: Text/subtitles yes, audio probably no - audio replacement could still happen later (and it'd be cool to hear) but right now it's not planned as part of the remake project itself.
