WC3 screenshots

I finally decided to try getting screenshots from WC3 and... I can't seem to do it.

I can obtain screenshots from every other WC game, I suppose there's something about WC3's engine which makes it difficult for programs to makes snaps from it.

I've tried HyperSnap-DX on two different computers, it doesn't seem to work for me, when I try to make a HS screenshot from WC3, HS just freezes and WC3's music or FMV stalls.

Any help is appreciated.

Yeah I tried ages ago trying to get some. If you do manage to get it working please let me know if you do get it working. I really need some screens.

Get your favorite camera and take snapshots of the screen, then scan the pictures. Tadaaa!

I used PCXDump back in 'the day'. Didn't work great for FMV -- but then that doesn't really matter anymore, since grabbing images from the FMV should be done via HCl's movie player...

Funny, I tried PCXDump, but it didn't seem to write anything to disk. The usual "successful capture" beeps happened, but after a two shots, something happened, and when I checked for the files, they weren't there. I'll try again later.

Oh, and HCl's Movie Player is a bit unstable on my computer. I don't blame him for that, though.

Okay, I know what happened now.

Using PCX Dump with WC3 causes the game to exit to DOS upon a transition from gameflow to flight and vice versa. The 20 000 000 byte swapfile remains on disk, but no PCX. A scan with Ripper 5 once managed to yield a PCX I had taken of the flight deck, but the palette was all screwed up. After that, I never managed to get another PCX.

How were the inflight screenshots for the ships database made?

Are you using DOS WC3 then? Perhaps KS would work with hypersnap.. I think that might have been how CIC Green's shots were made.

Yeah, only DOS stuff for me, no KS.

I can get some screenshots for you Wedge. I use a program called Screenshooter. Dunno if it will work on the PC version, but I have an emultor and I can get screencaps of Playstation games just fine, so I'll just run the game on the computer and take some shots if you like.

I have the same exact problem, but with Crusader: No Remorse, not No Regret 'cause it came with a built-in screen shot thingy. I can't seem to find a program that is capable with Full-DOS mode.. I tried a few of 'em and I couldn't figure some out and others just took gray pictures, nothing else.

Wedge, if only you were here in Victoria I could help you out with the Kilrathi Saga problem. I'd love to help you in any way I can to get screen shots as I really need them myself but I have no idea how to get them.

How could you help me with not having KS? If I was in Victoria, I'd probably not be very happy.

I appreciate offers to take screenshots I'm not after anything specific. When playing WCs, I like taking screenshots of important or pretty scenes. There'd no doubt be too many such scenes in WC3.

I'll do a few off the first CD, how about that? I can't seem to be able to swap disks over like you need to on Wing Commander. I'll try and get some good caps of the cinimas and in game. I'll try and put them up on the message board, but failing that I'll send them through email. Either way look for them tonight.

Okay, got the images done and hopefully they will be included here. It's just a few in game shots and ome early cinimas. I can get something else if you were after them, but a strange thing happened. The controls I had set up wouldn't let me autopilot, so if I wanted to get anywhere I'd have to change to the default controls, which I find horrid. Maybe it's just from using the keyboard, but I'll get a proper controller in the next couple of days and see how I go with that. If you wanted more screenshots I'll try and get some more then. Oh, and if there's any interest I can show you the Sims Wing Commander skins and the wrestling ones I've done up.

Mmm, the FMV looks nicer on the Playstation than on the PC.

Here's a couple more. I have ten cinima shots and five in game shots so far, with more if you wanted them, but I don't want to bog down the message board too much so I'll release the ones I have right now periodically.
