WC3 questions . . .

Viper61

Spaceman
I'm about to start WC3 for I think the 5th of 6th time (this time with an honest to God joystick, not just a gamepad woo hoooo!!!), and I had a few questions.

#1- Is there anyway to go after Flint but not Rachel without getting drunk? I really don't like one pissed at me because I chose another one. I know rachel is the book love interest, but I was more attracted to Flint than her (I'm a brunette man!).

#2- what is ships morale? I can see pilot morale through thier flying styles, but what does ship morale effect?

#3- Pertaining to the T-Bomb run, how do you keep the fighters off in the trench? Everytime I've went down there, they've come after me! Those atmospheric fighters are pretty tough!(I think the cloak is kindof cheating!)
Thanks for your help!

You don't need to get drunk in order to end up with Flint at the end of the game (afaik, whether or not you get drunk has nothing to do with it). It pretty much all comes down to who you choose when both of them show up in the bar. Kiss the one you like, and that's who you'll be on the shuttle with at the end of the game - provided, of course, that she doesn't die in the meantime (always a possibility with Flint).

#2 ship morale affects the performance of generic pilots and gunners on allied ships etc, ie. generic pilots flying ability and capship gunners accuracy

#3 try auto-sliding (be careful not to crash) and blasting away several ekapshi leaving just one*, then fly down the trench but keep jinking about to dodge its fire, or just save as much AB fuel as possible and try to out-run it.
("just like Beggars canyon back home" <G>)

*don't destroy the last one as it will lead to a new wave spawning.

Viper61: Hmm I can think of 2 ways to win the last mission.
A) Use the cloak.
B) Use afterburners to get to the target, while staying ahead of the Ekapshis. You'll have to use pretty much all your AB fuel though.
C) As soon as you start off, get into the trench and work your way to the target, without ever flying out the trench. That way no Ekapshis will show up, but this is very time consuming.

damned time consuming, pissed me off the first 15 times i played.
anyway, i did'nt know u could cloak more than once...

You can go faster if you AB and then press autoslide, when the AB fuel is consumed your ship will not desacelerate, so you will have infinite AB

I was trying to find out if you could get flint without pissing off rachel. Can you turn her down somewhere in the game where she won't be there at the bar?

what kind of inexpensive joystick (under 25 bucks- off of ebay preferably) does the board recommend. I've just bought the Thrustmaster top gun platinum and at initial use (that would be 1 time, I haven't tinkered with it) I wasn't impressed with the advantage over my gamepad. Suggestions?

No, I am pretty sure you can't.
And how can you think of using the cloak is cheating? The mission specifically asks for it? :)

The kind of joystick you need to play WC3 with isn't all that expensive (hardly even $10 these days, I'd expect). Just find an old analogue, and WORSHIP!

Actually the multiple cloak thing is a bug that showed up in the games early incarnations. i don't believe that it is in the KS version of WC3. i could be wrong. i've never played KS and probably never will since they never did and never will release a Mac version (Bobbo ducks once again as the Chat Zone members through large blunt objects at him).

I was just referring to using the cloak in the atmosphere (which I believe is kindof over done. I never liked the whole star trek 'bending light to make you invisible' kindof cloak that WC adopted for the WC3 and WC4 cloaking devices. Invisible to radar, fine, invisible to the eye, I don't like. I would rather have it like the WC3 book has it, with the cloak being a radar/scanner cloak, not a visible cloak). And also any cloak you had would probably not work in an atmosphere, IMHO).. That's what I view as cheating.

And yes the bug is still there in the KS.

Viper61: It's not about what you like or not. Confed has designed a cloaking device that shrouds you from radar, eyes and works in the atmosphere. Deal with it.

Oggy: The shroud device does cover you from eyesight. You'd have to be flying the Dragon to be able to see other cloaked ships.

Viper, how else would you go making a cloaking device? Stealth isn't a Star Trek thing. Even the militaries of today are trying to make cloaking devices. Bending light or or transmitting an image of the light are the two leading theores on the subject. In fact WC gives us two forms of stealth, the cloaking device and dark parmor as seen in the WCA cartoon.

Hi,

I'd guess cloaks or shrouds wouldn't work in an atmosphere due to the disturbance your aircraft makes when passing through. Given the amount of heat on rentry into an atmosphere, you would probably show up on infrared like a beacon.

Cheers

that's true. but assuming the cloak didn't create any visible distortions (which the startrek version is said to do) they'd have a hard time finding you once they got fighters to your location.7

hmm, which will come first? the first totally undetectable fighter?(u dont even see it it u bump into it) or the first energy shield?
