WC3 KS Blues...

Wing Commander 3 might have been my least favorite in the entire series, but it figures....I read that everyone is having problems playing it on Win XP, so I had to load mine up to see if it worked. Nope. Now I want to play it like mad. Is this a case of "ya don't want it until someone tells you ya can't have it?" I think that is how Sam Kinison put it anyhow. Hmmm....maybe I can find a copy of WC 3 for the Playstation on eBay. Oh wait, that's right....Wing Commander 3 was one of the handful of titles that won't work on the PS2. I don't think I am meant to play it again. Oh well. :)

Really? Hmmm....well, I might have to look into that then. It almost makes me sick even thinking about playing WC on the PS with a joypad. Feels sacreligious or something.

They made a special joystick for the PS1 that had special presets for Wing Commander.

I bought one of those PS1s with the LCD screens for WC a few weeks ago.

What's your problem with KS WC3 in XP? I tried it to see if it'd work on this computer just last night and it was fine.

It is the same problem that a lot of people are having. I load it up, it plays the intro and locks up after the first or second movie. I tried all the compatibility mode, the Win2000 patch, tried changing priorities in the processes to "normal," etc. I am not really sure what else to do.

Eh, the topic comes up a lot. Nobody ever happens to be talking about anything really cool that I have (G)

?? Better ?? WC3on PS is good only to get the news briefs and other extra scenes... Otherwise the controls are cumbersome and take forever to get used to.

WC4 playstation port fairs better... It supports analog control and has a welcome, if limited, use of force feedback. However in another sense WC4 PS1 feels like it clips along faster because it does (4cds only). There are entire mission sections and conversations cut from that version.

Edit: Oops.. I think you mean better on ps2 than ps1... Oh well, I still have that opinion of the ports though!

Did you play with your soundcard's hardware acceleration? Some games (like Prophecy) need it turned down, while others (KS WC3 among them) want it turned up all the way.

to get the KS WC3 to work in XP, just make sure you don't use the KS launcher, find the file and run the exe straight from there. Alt-Tab out and get the programme manager up, set it to normal priority on the process tab (right click and select priority) and then go back to it. works great.
