WC2: KS Sound stuttering Problems In Win. Vista

Hello all, sorry if this problem has already come about, but i couldnt find the answer anywhere.

Have windows Vista 64-bit, installed WC: KS and am able to play all using the win95 compatability settings however.... After testing out WC2 initially all apeared to run as good as it did since i purchased it in '96.

Recently however, i have noticed that sometimes during cinematics, and numerous times during game play( especially during times of radio traffic) all voices and dynamic sound effects(e.g. afterburners) begin to stutter and have a sort of repititious echo effect. gameplay does NOT slow, but the sound is horrible.

I was wondering if anyone could help me in the matter, I read somewhere that you could configure your DX settings so I went to the DXdiag area but was not given the option to "slow" down acceleration like I had been reading.

Any ideas on a solution. I just dont know why this started all of a sudden.

thnx again.:)

It's not in dxdiag anymore, it's now in control panel, appearance and personalisation, personalisation, display settings, advanced settings, troubleshooting!

THnx for the response, i followe your directions to the letter...but unfortunately my computer states that the option to change my settings in that category are unavailable to change? What gives?

hmm, that usually means that your graphics card is not great - or at least the drivers don't let you change anything. I'm not sure then.
What sound card do you have? does the mixer for it support echo or similar?

according to the "device manager menu" it states Realtek High Definition Audio. WOuld that be it. I guess my computer efficiency has deminished over the years since i have stopped upgrading .

Yeah, sounds like an integrated/motherboard type sound "card." Are there other settings that it does let you adjust? There is a command line switch you can try to disable DirectSound usage. It's geared for WC3, but you might try it or some variant.

Command-Line Parameters for Wing Commander 3 for Windows 95.
If you are experiencing performance problems or other technical difficulties with Wing Commander 3 for Windows 95, you may want to try using one or more of the available "Command-line" parameters for running the game. Since the game normally runs like any Windows 95 program, you will have to open an MS-DOS Prompt within Windows 95 to execute the command-line parameters. Click on START, on PROGRAMS and then on MS-DOS PROMPT. Change to the Wing Commander 3 directory on your hard drive (by typing CD\PROGRA~1\KILRAT~1\WC3). Type "WC3W " followed by one of the following switches:

-D This forces the hardware "double-buffering" to turn off. Can be helpful with video-related problems.
-NO_SOUND Use this to disable Wing Commander 3's use of DirectSound.
