WC1/2 Launch Sequence Inspiration

I recently obtained a few DVDs with WW2 era navy aircraft training films and documentaries. I was watching one about offensive fighter tactics, and the following sequence jumped out at me. The first part looks like WC1 and the second part with the actual plane launch is just like WC2. Is it a direct connection? I have no idea, but it sure looks similar.

I've always loved the WC2 launch scene. It is EXACTLY the same as the "Shooter" on a Navy aircraft carrier deck, as he's the one that orders the actual launch. He'll kneel down to avoid getting his head knocked off by a wing, touch the deck, then point forward...exactly the way that WC2 shows it. That point forward after touching the deck is the actual launch command; the catapult tech will press the launch button immediately afterwards, sending the plane hurtling down the deck.

Love it.

between the WW2 dogfights-in-space nature of most space sims, and the the WC similarities to the Pacific theatre naval battles, was *anyone* surprised? ;-)

I wonder if the US carrier pilots in WWII had the cool launch music though....

I know if I was getting ready to defend my ship against attack, the music would be key!! :D
