WC Fighter Roles?

Does anyone know the Roles for the WC3:
Arrow,Hellcat,Longbow & Thunderbolt?

What I mean by Roles is the types of missions you ge to fly(Recon,PatrolStrike, escort, etc.)

Basically you can fly any fighter in any mission but some missions were designed to use a certain fighter (you can choose to fly between a Longbow and a Thunderbolt VII in a mine mission, but you must use the Longbow, you always use the Arrow in the first mission, In all the land-based missiosn you fly the Excallibur)

I know this I need to know this for my WC3 RPG. See I'm also known as Wesker T-001. The Game/Web master for the TCS Voyager RPG and I have just recently switched from WC1 time to a WC3 and I need to know to assign my pilots their fighters for missions. If you don't know do you know any webpages that does?

Yeah, I use the Hellcat V for the CAP missions, Arrow for escort missions, Thunderbolt VII and Hellcat V for strike missions and the Longbow for anti-capship missions.

That's just me, though....

I also use the Hellcat V for the first mission in WC3

I know we're talking 3 here, but the title isn't so specific, and I'm currently playing 1 again, so I just wanted to chime in. :D

Is it just me, or is the Rapier Confeds most effective missle? lol :)

Depends, if you go by books or by games or a combination of the two.

Longbow is a strike weapon, no doubt.

Thunderbolt is mainly a strike weapon, though it is often used in books as Blairs all purpose fighter (which is what I use it for). It also has limited roles as patrol/escort.

The Arrow is described in the books as the recon/patrol/escort fighter. I don't agree. The Arrow is a wonderful recon fighter with a decent CAP ability, but I don't like them for extended patrol.

The Hellcat, which in my point of view the most underated fighter in the fleet, is stuck in the CAP defense roles in the book. It is a great CAP defender, but I thought the 'Cat really shone during long patrol missions.

The Excaliber I believe is the replacement for the hellcat. There are some missions that call for the Hellcats flying abilities and the 'Bolts heavy weapons. This I believe is the niche for the excaliber (all-round fighter). Also atmospheric.

Of course all fighters could be called upon to do a CAP/defense mission if a carrier was in jeapordy.

Re: Re: WC Fighter Roles?

Arrow: It's speed and good weapon load (for a light fighter) means it's a pretty good scout, escort, and intreceptor.

Hellcat: Ground attack if you're too poor to affort Excaliburs. :D

Thunderbolt: Just about everything except scouting. Tons of firepower combined with decent (though not great) speed and agility made this just about the perfect multi-mission fighter.

Longbow: Strikes that involve attacking more than a coule of capships.

Excalibur: everything except the kind of strikes you send Longbows on.

Best, Raptor

Yes, the Hellcat V was great for extended patrols and CAP defense. I always hated having to automatically launch in an Arrow during defense missions, since I felt the Hellcat V was better suited for it; its weaponry and range made it a better choice.

I agree that the Arrow is good for recon. However, I used the Arrow specifically for escort missions; its speed allowed it to intercept incoming bogies quick and chase skippers.

I use the Thunderbolt VII for strike missions... but I suck with it (way too lumbering and full guns drain too rapidly).

The Longbow had very limited use! Only when the mission specifically called for destroying capships and bases.

The Excalibur, of course, was the ultimate all-around fighter. I just used it for all missions by the time it was readily available (although every chance I got to take advantage of the Hellcat V's strengths, I did :D ).

Yes, I agree with you. The Longbow is used fro deep strike missions; they are escorted by medium class fighters who "play" with the enemy fighters, trying to open a path to the capships and/or bases. Then the Longbows shoot their torpedoes, make a 360°, and go back home. It's got huge armor, but it is very slow; it can't survive alone...

It's funny to think about the role of the fighters; I mean, in the early 90's, when WC1 has been released, our real armies had medium and heavy fighters. There were fighters to intercept, and fighters to strike... In WC3, the Excalibur appeared... and in our real world, multi-role fighters appeared too (I mean were almost operationnal): Eurofighter Typhoon, Saab Grippen, Dassault Rafale (and the F-22 too)...
