WC Computer Specs

Vice Admiral
I just ressurected my old Hewlett Packard Pentium I to run the older WC Games, WC1, WC2 and WC3 (Note, the games are the originals, not KS, so WC1 and WC2 have 3.5 floppies) Here are the specs, can someone tell me if it will work well?

Processor: Pentium I 166mhz
Windows 95
Ram: 64 Mb
CD: 40x Speed
Sound: Sound Blaster Pro
Old Style Joystick Port
Dos Version: 6.0

Yay, I'm glad other people are getting into the hobby of putting together Wing Commander Computers. A P/166 should be fine for just about anything, save some of the fan upgrades to WCP... you'll have to slow down WC1, but everything else should be fine. I've been working on perfecting my WC machine for more than a year now, so I'm happy to offer any advice regarding components and what-not!

Since I'm a Mac user, here are my specs:
Blue+White G3 450MHz
512MB Ram
ATi Radeon 32MB PCI card
Voodoo FX2 12MB passthrough card
WC 3 and 4 for Mac
WC Prophecy for VirtualPC3 running Win98 (the last rev that can execute 3DFX hardware w/o software emulation lagging things down)
As soon as I can obtain a copy of WC 1 and 2 and load them in virtual PC, I'll send screen shots.

Neat! I ended up buying an old PowerMac for the Macintosh WC ports (which I still haven't set up... I really should get on that, but I'm pretty Mac-clueless).

Why no Super Wing Commander on your setup?

D'oh! Totally forgot about that! Saw one on eBay not that long ago, but at work, they have it blocked out so I cannot bid on it. Blasted facists. >:(

Yes!
I finally won the Super Wing Commander for Mac and I'm about ready to move onto my "pet project".
What I need to get next is this. This PCI card allows you to run Windows on your Mac sans emulator! And since I've still got plenty of free PCI slots on my G3, I'll have enough room to add on a VooDoo 2 passthrough card. WC Prophecy here I come!
Boo-yah!

my new computer is effectively my WC machine. But, it's also my machine for everything else. It's running everything flawlessly, 'cept for WC4 (which I haven't tinkered with much yet, anyway, so I'm sure I'll get it to run nicely, even though I'm using XP)

Ehehehe, I think LOAF's PC is, maybe, too good for a WC-dedicated box. BTW, why do you need 3 different MIDI devices?

Good grief. And I always used lame SB16 for this. One question, is the SBLive! any better than the SB16 in the MIDI department?

If someone knows of a simple 486, I'll settle for that

Good for Wing 1,2, Academy, Priv, RF, Armada(?)
I have a WinXP from which I'm trying to activate 95 and 98 to play Priv2 again, now adding the KSaga, Wing 4, and Prophecy...the only games I have been unable to play are RF, Armada, and the Prophecy add-on.

Hmm, no, it doesn't - but it does use my GM MIDI card, the Roland RAP-10, for its digital stuff (the RAP-10 was the only Roland card which did non-MIDI stuff)...

Ah, OK, that's what I thought.

Speaking of which, is there any notable difference between the digital output in WC4 using the RAP-10 and the output of a regular Sound Blaster 16(or clone)?

I don't have the cash or anything but as soon as I can reformat my computer, I'll install Windows 98 instead of XP, that'll let me play nearly all the WC games except for the early ones I guess
