Very quick wc2 question

Relating to Novaya Kiev C:

Why does Angel say the Admiral is unhappy with my mission to escort the Hector and take out the Fralthra?? As far as I can see, the mission was a resounding success - despite the Hector's attempts to jump into me.

Been playing the game for the first time since I was about ten, it's still great. The Broadsword suits me perfectly - Does anyone else find some of the smaller fighters almost too manoeuvrable to control sometimes? And why are Jalkehi so useless?

It gives you the feel that no matter what you do you are screwed in his eyes and he will never be impressed!

Not a clue about why the Admiral is unhappy...maybe he's just a grumpy guy? :)

Regarding maneuverability...agree to an extent. Everyone has different flying styles, and I tend to use one of two...either I like a nice stable gunnery platform with a lot of firepower (i.e. the Broadsword, or the good old Y-wing from X-wing), or I like a fast, maneuverable ship to camp on someone's tail and a gun with a high refire rate (I love the Ferret and the Banshee in this regard, but can't stand the Epee, because it has the guns of a gunnery platform--slow firing, high damage, long range--but the handling and armor of a close-in dancer). But I know other folks swear by the Epee. Still, I agree it is possible to have too much maneuverability...I'm constantly flying my Rapiers and my Epees into the other fighters because they just fly too hot.

I agree with you totally about the Jalkehi. There was a discussion thread going a little while back where people were complaining that the Jalkehi were too powerful (and if you think that, what must you think about Grikath?)...and I just didn't get it. I think the Jalkehi was one thing that was just a little bit broken about WC2...on paper, they're supposed to be fantastic fighters, but I always found that they couldn't aim for squat and their armor always seemed to be far thinner than it was supposed to be.

Thanks people... the Novaya Kiev thing still doesn't make very much sense to me though:

Angel: I’m glad you could join us, Maverick. Admiral Tolwyn spoke to me about your mission against the Fralthra yesterday.
Maverick: I can imagine what he said.
Angel: He was not very impressed, mon ami. He does not plan to assign you to any other combat missions.

I mean, I can understand if his opinion of me was unchanged, but I don't see what I've done to worsen it...

Farbourne, I have the same problem as you with crashing into other fighters, in the Rapier in particular. May have something to do with the very poor field of view from the cockpit. Plus I'm playing with the mouse so controls are pretty sensitive.

The Jalkehi just don't seem to have any real strengths. Even the Broadsword can keep up with their manoeuvres, and they don't seem to be able to hit the smaller craft. Grikath is a different matter - once I've got one lined up it's relatively simple blowing it to bits, but I have a real problem getting one in my sights properly. I guess their lack of profile side-on is something to do with that, as I like to attack from the side. I'm still having nightmares about Kur....

Another thing I was irritated about was not getting any credit in the script for shooting down Khasra, it took quite a bit of fruitless chasing around so I was hoping for an acknowledgement at least.

Practically nothing Tolwyn says or does in WC2 makes any sense. He's a ridiculous caricature.

Jalkei are trouble sometimes when they show up five at a time, but yeah, otherwise they're big slow targets, and the armaments isn't as intimidating as their predecessor's.

I take it you mean the Jalthis from WC1?

I still have nightmares about the swarms of those things.

Huh, that's a nice observation. Like apparently most people, I just thought that it meant that Tolwyn would never be impressed, regardless of what I do.
