Unknown Enemy Voice-over request (just 3 more to go guys!)

Pedro

Admiral
Well I don't want to do my usual habbit of posting the entire progress INCLUDING the new stuff and then getting Quarto complaining that I've used up his news material ;)

Basically UE is entering the final stages so to speak, playing the game now feels like playing a finished product, a modern one at that with all the new ship models from Eder etc and patches from HCl, unfortunatley the completeness ends somewhat early on in the game with a few bugs yet to be straightened, a missing FMV from Hadrian and the final cutscene from Quarto, and ofcourse... 3 roles for the voice overs.
We've filled the majority of the numerous roles already (even us programmers have chipped in ;)) but the last 3 roles are the only part of the game uncompleted which is not currently being worked on, hence this appeal to anyone on the CZ who hasn't yet chipped in their talents.

Anyway I'll end it after that quick appeal so as to leave something for the next of the ever frequent (no seriously, I know the CICs been busy but theres more than an update a week at http://unknownenemy.solsector.net) updates.

Oh yeah just so you don't all e-mail me Q's taken over the voice overs (along with many other things, mainly due to the firewalls at my uni) so any applicants should e-mail him at qmajewski@yahoo.co.uk

2 years ago it was about being scrapped and rewritten I believe ;)

It was probably entering the final stages about 8 months ago but you'll be glad of the changes, thats not so much been a delay to reach our goals but rather moving the goal posts to exceed expectations.

No, it's only been in the final stages for the last three or four months :p. Hey, we're a fan project - we do this in our spare time. The jumps and sputters in production speed are a consequence of this. But don't worry, we will finish :).

Eh, there was stuff that wasn't up *before* we switched servers... so I don't really know. And yes, the web-based mirror is down for, at least, the forseeable future. If there's a demand for it I could always set something up, I guess...

"Forseeable future"? Oh. Uh, does it take more room to mirror it on HTTP? I've always found it easier and more reliable than FTP...

[How much demand would be necessary? ;) And there's still only the original Claw Marks setup, without the new Secret Missions ships.]

It doesn't take any more space. It just takes more effort :) If it makes you happy I'll do what I can when I have a bit of spare time.

I've done an inventory of the files. The only ones missing from the files page hosted on blacklance.org are:

A Prophecy help file I've never read that's probably been missing for years
The SWC Mac Demo that we lost around a year ago to a server wipe and nobody had a copy
The Xan Codex LOAF took down
Two mouse drivers that we just probably didn't reupload last time because they were somewhat halfhazard additions

The music section as a whole is rather messed up. There are a couple of files missing that are in the links, but there are actually more there that aren't listed... It's more a question of keeping sections up to date than a host of missing files or an incomplete transfer of what files were up a week ago.

Also, no whining about stuff that's a week out of date for at least another week. I'm trying to help the blacklance.org guys with getting settled into their new server. On that note, I'll upload the Claw Marks updates again when I'm next logged into the server.

Is there anything I can do if that much effort is required?

The Xan Codec LOAF took down
Which is included in HCl's Movie Viewer anyway [and the Win95 patch].

I was afraid of that.

Sorry, I just thought everything was in place now. :o

I know this is more LOAF's area, but one of the tracks from the Origin CD he reported in the news in August 2001, specifically, WC2's Main Theme, is no longer there. And his music directory [which I need for the WCP orchestral tracks] as well has his WC3 Missing Scenes are lacking indices, although the latter can still be seen in the news archive.

Not much effort would have been required. Unfortunately due to the fact that the FTP directory is below the web root and this server is set up in a somewhat secure fashion I cannot just make a symbolic link to the directory. You're stuck with FTP :)

Which is, I assume, the reason that only one person has complained!

It's still a site image from last week. It's just a complete site image from last week!

I assume that was taken down because it was rather large :) I'm sure it'll be made available if you really want it.

That's because they're his magical directories full of secrets! er... yeah.

Oh well. I take it the first sentence means that whatever you did for the HTTP mirror last time can't work this time?

Complete?

No, no, no, not the dozens of megabytes complete tracks from the Origin CD, these ones chopped the tracks up into individual songs - there's only one (the WC2 opening) which is missing, the rest are online again.

No, not the root directory where he keeps his twisted, er, secrets, the "music" and "missing" directories used to have indices which I found were very useful.

Huzzah! Thanks, and not just for myself, I'm sure there were others who were interested in it.

yes.

Complete?

insofar as it has what was on it last week.

I don't know then.

Oh! A server generated index. I thought you were talking about a LOAF made index. Yeah, it seems that apache's configured on this machine to not give directory listings. I don't really have a huge problem with that. In fact, I rather like it :) If LOAF wants you to get the files, he can throw together an index in 3 seconds.

That would be nice, but I've worked out the WCP music from the links in the news archive, at the time they were in a different directory, now they're in LOAF's.
