To CD or Not To CD (March 2, 2007)

Following yesterday's EATrax announcement, LeHah decided to check with The Fatman about his long-rumored Wing Commander album. The good news is that it's still in the works! Here's the report from the man himself:

Thanks for the reminder!

If I'm not mistaken, our plan changed slightly in light of the fact that Dave's been quite busy with police work.

Our plan, I think, is at present, to go back to the idea of releasing the album as it sounded on the game--all MT-32 (with a little boost from Sound Canvas in MT-32 mode). The twist is that we'd release it both as a CD and as files on AmieStreet.

I'll double-check with Linda and see if that's what we landed on.

there is an orchestra doing free shows througout europe, playing game themes like battlefield 1942, etc. Musically, wouldn't be a WC album be challenge, combining all five games?

WC has a lot more melody and orchstration behind their theme songs then most other games, flying home in WC4 made me feel like a hero, and somehow just no more then an expansion on my homecoming in WC1/2 theme.

Because of rights issues, this would be a WC1 album. EA owns everything else (other than the movie music).

I thought the fatman did WC2 as well

a lot of the flight music overlaps between the two games

He did, but he didn't retain the rights like he did with the WC1 music.

Keep in mind that Fatman and Team Fat are busy doing music for other games. The Wing Commander CD has been something of a side project, so it doesn't always get the attention it deserves.

Yes, its been taking a while - but an update is better than no update, and I have no doubt of the payoff!

So far, the only sample of the project is that short sample of the Main Theme. Wish we could have more...
