This Really Puts Us On The Map! (October 26, 2005)

Bandit LOAF

Long Live the Confederation!
Frosty, Halman and I were bored on a sleepy Tuesday afternoon, so we decided to plot Wing Commander characters' home towns on a Google "Frappr!" map. You can find our little map here. All the cool kids are, no doubt, using this tool to plot their MySpace box socials... but like all technology, it is most pure when adapted for uses Wing Commander in nature. It seems to be half tool and half Wikipedia... so if you come across any other characters from Earth, be sure and add them.

The map currently consists mostly of Wing Commander I and Wing Commander Prophecy wingmen... since they're the ones who have bios that list their home cities. It actually has two birthplaces for Knight, as the editors responsible for the SNES port decided that Angola was a more appropriate home than South America. It's kind of fun to see characters laid out like this... for instance, Captain Johnny's Prophecy counterpart, Majestic, is from the heart of Africa. Who knew?

Hummm... "Destroyed! Quebec, Quebec (Canada) - 2668 Earth Defense Campaign"; I am curious to know the reference for this... where should I look ? A novel ?

Quebec is one of the cities destroyed at the end of Fleet Action (you're in good company, though -- a bunch of great cities are lost).

Hummm... I should really gift myself with the WC novels for Christmas... I should be able to keep a few bucks aside to place an order someday ! :p

BTW, the cities destroyed in the attack on Earth are also listed on p.12 of the Voices of War (Armada) manual, which is available in PDF form from the CIC. The relevant part:

The Kilrathi successfully launch anti-matter rockets on crucial defense cities – Chicago, Pittsburgh, Boston, Miami, Quebec, Berlin, Paris, Kiev and others – then retreat to Kilrah.

Yup, São Paulo was destroyed too. Oh, we're talking about GREAT cities, nevermind then.

And Pete, buy those books, they're dirtcheap on amazon, half.com and ebay.
