There was a more recent WC type game

I read an interview with Derek Smart who said that he was the only one that had anything to do with the making of the game. It must of been BC2k I think.

Sounds like he just lied/exaggerated. You can go look at the credits for all the Battlecruiser games, and he's not the only one listed. A Battlecruiser 2000 doesn't really make sense. :)

I quoted you earlier - not sure on etiquette thats all....

I don't think there is such a thing as "old posts" in a thread that's only two days old.

And what's about newest games like "Battlestar Galactica" (a little boring for me) and Yager for Xbox (didn't try it yet).

And what you think about mixing genres, it's really true. Star Wars Rogue Leader for Gamecube it's an amazing game, hard, but it's really pure. Factor 5 ruined it on the sequel called "Rebel Strike". The pilots go outside the ships and start shooting in a crunky 3rd person view with HORRIBLE control

I remember Bang! Gunship Elite for Dreamcast as a entertaining game, perhaps a little monotonous, but fun to play for a while at least.

I'd say the biggest problem with cross genre games (like in FPS/SpaceSim) is creating or at least adapting two decent engines that fit together. At least technically that should be possible granted enough money is invested into the project (which is unlikely as SpaceSims are considered niche these days and secondly a mix would be untraditional and its a given that the big players tend to stick with what sells well).
The second even more problematic point even if you get all that money for such a project is filling both elements of such a game with enough decent content so neither part seems to be just a minigame within the other.

I could see it being good if a certain company had people good at (for example) fpses and rtses. If they can work well together then it could become a good game. But without a big budget (which publishers will probably not want to risk on a multi-genre product) it probably wouldn't do too well.
