The thing about the Dralthi...

I think in any game where you take on a number of cap ships the bomber or wing of bombers should have enough torps to do the job. Just barely is kinda half !_) if you ask me! In fact there was a couple of times in WCP, depending on difficulty setting, you run a good chance of running out of torpedos with those bugs firing at your incomming torps. At that point the bombers should have enough to carry out the mission. Or at least your wingmen not blindly fire their torps at a target already destroyed! I saw 2 to 4 torps going after engines on an already dead bug supply ship once!! That was after I hit it with a torp!! But they kept on firing at it!! Then there wasnt enough torps for the next nav point of cap ships!! UGH!!! :(

That's 'cos your wingmen are stupid, not 'cos you haven't got enough torps. If you're smart and patient, you do a Wild Weasel run on the ships first and take out the defending guns. Then locking your torp is a breeze. Even a single Shrike carries enough torps to take out 2 cruisers. That should be more than enough if you're smart.

I think I only ever found myself strapped for torps in one mission, which was that WC2 SO2 mission where you had to take down 2 Fralthra (?) with your Morningstar. Basically, you had to nail 1 with your Mace, and the other with your two Torps. If you missed ONCE ... back to the start of the mission.

Hey, that looks like a nice mission!
Too bad I never got a chance to play Secret Ops for WC2... :(
Eh eh, but now they are available to download for free, right?

I know what I will do this summer when i get back to Paris...

While you can't really infer any relationship based on their names, what is obvious is that there is quite a bit of correlation between roles of the fighters:
Sa - Light fighters.
Dra - Medium fighters.
Jal - Heavy fighters.
Gr - Bombers.

However, this is a 'system' that only works in WC1 and 2, and is not carried over into WC3. Indeed, even in WC1 and 2 there are exceptions, like the Gothri (bomber) and the Hhriss (take a Jalthi, add a little Gratha).

WOOW!!! For once Quarto agress with me, and then again not "completely"...

Where the hell did I put that champagne bottle?.. :)

well panty (is that better?) I must say that I believe there is a naming convention for each type of ship that is mostly followed in the earlier games, but is then forgotten about as the years go on.

You're on the right track Nap... ;)
(see? I have made efforts as well: the "nap" has become "Nap"... now until that "m" from mpanty doesn't pop up :p...)

Been there done that, the wingmen are a waste of time since they like to throw their torps at dead targets. So I order them to hang out on my wing and I do the job myself since I know the difference between a live target and a dead target and actually win the mission. That smart enough?

Ya, they seem to be able to take care of fighters rather than the cap ship! So I take care of the cap ships myself until I run out of torps then call upon them to finish if they havent wasted all their ammo! Thats why I love the Devistator on bombing missions, never have to worry about running out of torps, that good ol plasma gun!! :D

I guess it's the difference between CAN carry and USUALLY carries.

Hmmm ... I never bothered shooting the Fralthra at all.
I still got the winning ending. It doesn't seem to have
any effect on the mission whether you shoot the Fralthra
or not. I saved the Mace for the Sabres :).

Eh? Sabres? I always found the Mace to be more effective on capships, I don't think I ever even scratched a fighter with it.
