Super Wing Commander

Ok, sorry for all of the threads, i was looking at the the Holovids and came accross videos for Super Wing Commandeer on 3DO. Funny thing is, that i have this game for 3Do but of course no 3DO system to play it on. Does anyone know about this game, is it good, worth me investing in the system to play, or is there a PC version of Super Wing Commander.

There is actually an emulator out there that'll let you play 3DO games on the PC. The only thing is, its fairly intensive (i've got 2 gigs of ram, 2 gig duo core processor and 512 meg video card to boot on my laptop and it still had issues) in so far as whats required for it to work. It's called FreeDo. It's probably certainly easier to just find a 3DO machine on e-bay, but if you're up to try the emulator just do a google search for it. It's pretty fun to play just to see the ship differences and animations.

thanks, i may try it or look for the system. Now is this game (Super Wing Commander) an off shoot of the original, or the original with different things added?

Super Wing Commander is basically the original Wing Commander with new Privateer-level SVGA graphics. It also features full speech and a completely different group of CGI cutscenes (so instead of seeing scientists defend McAuliffe, you see an attack on a Confederation carrier, for instance).

It includes the original 40-mission Vega Campaign and The Secret Missions... but it drops Crusade in favor of a new set of 18 missions which tells the story of the Tiger's Claw attacking the research facility that developed the Sivar.

Various dialogue in the original game has been added to to set up for 'Super Wing Commander 2' (which never happened) -- so you hear characters mention rumors of stealth fighters and talk about Admiral Tolwyn on occasion.

As for emulating it... my experience says that the 3DO emulator isn't ready for prime time yet. In addition to being a system hog, it's also fairly buggy.
