Super Wing Commander on WinXP/Me/98

They do look awefully similar, the Lex is just a lot simplier looking.

I think they're based on the same source model. From an in-universe perspective, though, they're clearly different - having different numbers of decks, different locations for launching fighters, etc.

It's interesting to see how this game fits in the Wing Commander Universe. It is set during Wing Commander 1 Secret Missions 1 apparently. However, the TCS Tiger's Claw no longer looks like a Bengal Class Strike Carrier. Looks more like the TCS Lexington in Armada as people have pointed out. Paladin seems to have an eye patch?! The interior of the Claw looks a little more dark and used.
Thoughts?

SWC *is* Wing Commander 1, Secret Missions 1 and a new set of 16 missions. Same dialogue, story, missions, etc.

Historically, of course, the Lexington looks like the 'Claw and not vice versa - since Super Wing Commander was developed well before Armada.

(I like Paladin's eye patch, though.)

How About This Screenshot?!

Hi All,

Yes, it's Gaijin from Tokyo once again. Hi LOAF! Still wondering what that means....

You have seen this, but others in this thread haven't. I have the distinction of having a 1995ish Mac 7100, a G3, an IBM ThinkPad X24 and a self-built P4 lightning-fast machine all on the same desktop! Not to mention the G5 I have at the office...hehe.

But I digress. Here is the shot I took of the lounge in Super Wing Commander for the Mac, with an Ultima witch flying by the window! LOAF, can you fill us in on exactly who she is once again?
I don't have attachment privileges so here is the URL:

She flew almost out of the window before I had the sense
to ignore Maniac's rant and do a screen shot!

Thanks muchly and check six,

Gaijin

Heya Gaijin! Glad to hear that you're still around.

Your witch is The Avatar, the main character of the Ultima games. He's (or she, until Ultima 8) is dressed as he appears in the intro cutscene to Ultima VII Part 2 (Serpent Isle)... it's even more appropriate, since the intro scene actually involves your character floating around in space (G)

Hehe, Origin's games are full of such things. The best was in Ultima VII, though... in a cornfield east of Brittania you can find Prince Thrakhath's Bloodfang fighter from WC2. When you click on it, the game plays the WC2 Kilrathi theme.

If you talk to the farmer who owns the field, he tells you about how the ship contained a monster which talked about wanting to "Kill Wrathy"... whom the farmer proceeded to kill and eat. :)

There's a Brittania Star System in Armada, too.

So, now WHAT exactly has to be done to get joystick and music support? I went through a lot to get this game (not to mention the OS)and i think it rocks.

i bought it for 5 bucks in the top ten mac pac II. Music and Joystick support would be nice though.

@ bandit LOAF: the model is from armada isn´t it? SWC uses Bitmaps as far as i can tell

This is the first time I've actually seen screens from Super Wing Commander, I feel bad for missing out on that. I'll have to try and find it sometime.

The Lexington Claw bothers me a little though, especially since I love the WC1 Bengal design, inconsistancies will be the death of me.

Yeah, it looks quite a bit better than the DOS WC1.

I couldn't believe when I was able to find Secret Missions for the SNES a couple months ago. Still trying to get my copy of Kilrathi Saga.

It's been a surprisingly long time since I've played Wing Commander... hopefully I still remember all my facts. Which I suppose isn't as much compared to those who have read the novels. *L*

Oh there aren´t any. if you disregard the fact that every ship and character have been altered to a degree you won´t find any resemblence to wc1 at all...
bluehair´s name is armstrong, paladin has an eyepatch, but at least they have speech now. Now if the voice actors had had SOME motivation dubbing the game...

Hi to all:
I have a copy of SWC for 3DO, I only wish it coul run under emulation, y ve finished the game, (as well WC3 also in 3DO), is a shame that gere no -one will fix my machine :( .
Is a good game, but still pr4efer the ships in WC1 (that I ve played in AMIGA)
