Super Wing Commander on WinXP/Me/98

I think they used that model for the Bengal-class Strike Carrier in Armada as well.

The reason SWC looks like Privateer is because it looks like WC2 as well.

In WC1, every ship was hand (well, you know) drawn.

In WC2 and Priv, every ship was modeled in a 3d modeler, then exported as stills.

If you notice, a lot of the ships from SWG were used in other WC games.

Oh, and I have played SWG for a long time on my PC, using Basilisk II.

Hehe. SWG.

LOAF it's kinda funny cuz if I recall correctly I think you sent me a copy of SWC to keep a long time ago. I still have it although I have to admit I never beat the whole game as I often found it to be kind of annoying to play at certain points. Not sure if it was just my comp at the time or what, but the game always seemed to run a little funny in during flight. I really should reinstall it on my machine and fire it up, although the only joysticks I have for my mac are old Thrustmaster FCS, RCS, and whatever the hell the mac throttle was called (TCS?) and they connect using ADB which is no longer supported on macs which all use USB and firewire. I don't think I could go back to using the keyboard after all the years w/ my good ole thrustmaster's, which I owned for both mac and PC. To bad their gone nowadays, quality sticks, but way overpriced.

The WC1 ships were not hand-drawn. Almost certainly were rendered and exported as sprites, same as WC2 and Priv. Probably with a different software. Maybe the finished sprites were retouched, but it's very clear that the basic images were rendered.

The throttle is WCS (Weapons Control System). Do the RCS and WCS work with the Mac WCs?

According to the interview with Roberts, they used very primitive CAD software for WC1. Up until WC3 (the cap ships in Armada were sprites I beleive), they used a more advanced 3d renderer with phong shading.

I am well aware, however, I do not beleive they utilized 3d models for the cap ships. The 3d engine DOES support billboards, you know.

Nope, the capships are also 3D - you can extract all four from the game (and I have the source models here).

What about the carriers? It has been at least 2 years since I have played Armada (I don't have infinite resources like yourself :) ), but I remember them being pixelated, like the Claw from SWC.

They're 3D objects (though the Confed one is a *very* simple 3D object - something like four rectangles).

Just in the intro. The SWC Lexington is very similar, but is a different model with decidedly different textures:

It's interesting to see how this game fits in the Wing Commander Universe. It is set during Wing Commander 1 Secret Missions 1 apparently. However, the TCS Tiger's Claw no longer looks like a Bengal Class Strike Carrier. Looks more like the TCS Lexington in Armada as people have pointed out. Paladin seems to have an eye patch?! The interior of the Claw looks a little more dark and used.
Thoughts?
