Stuck in WC3 mission

I am having problems with the mission where you escort the Victory to the jump point. After Rollins screams that the jump point is gone, I mop up all the fighters and the carrier, I get the "mission objectives accomplished" message, and then the Victory blows up. Am I doing something wrong?

If I remember correctly you can avoid doing that by autopiloting to the landing after you get "mission objectives accomplished", but this could probably be considered cheating.

You still need to get landing clearance first. I figured out that a skipper missile destroyed the Victory after I had won the mission. I am past that now.

Actually, to skip the skipper missile navpoint, you have to request permission to land at the point before that, and manually fly into the hangar at under 100 (IIRC on the value). Hitting autopilot to land will just take you to the next waypoint, which is what you were trying to avoid. However, by doing so the mission is considered failed, and you go to Delius to play in the rocks.

The alternative way of doing that mission is to manually fly ahead to the waypoint with the 'vette, instead of hitting autopilot to get there. By flying manually, you get to leave the Victory far enough away that you can engage the corvette at your leisure, before the missile launch is triggered.

One of the problems is people just being unaware that they're watching out for Skippers in this mission. Once you're on point to look for those, it's not so bad.

I also had problems with the skipper. One of my problems was that my joystick is always off center, so I have to physically hold it up and to the right, and even then it's difficult to fly in a straight line and aim. Even without this prob., when you're on nightmare level, you can't match speed and continue in the skipper's direction without an enemy getting on your tail and firing lasers and missiles. With this in mind, there's maybe only two brief chances you have when it uncloaks for just a few seconds to find it, fly within laser range, and hit the target. I often relied on my wingmen to take out the missile. For some reason, even though I normally didn't fly with her, I always had luck with Flint when it came to destroying skipper missiles.
