I started this a bit before I lost my pc due to a badly needed reformat. At the time I started, I was pretty gung ho having figured out how to create more realistic looking planets and retooling my Bengal carrier model but after the reboot I wonder if it's worth continuing...

Anyway, you will need Divx 5.2 in order to view. Its about 27mb all told.

Beautiful work!

The ship models are gorgeous...the composition and camera placement are magnificent

I only have 2 complaints
a) too low rez (since I was gettin' 384 KB/sec I'd prefer to have paid 4x the bandwidth for 2x the rez)
b) stars too big (they loook like snow in a blizzard rather than stars)

but as far as the models, the composition the rendering the combat... work with it..it's amazing!

I'm hoping eventually (soon) Vega Strike will have battles like that (or at least the WCUniverse mod)

It's really, really cool!

I agree with hellcat about the low resolution. Other than that, your work is incredible! Congratulations!

hell yeah! that was awesome! my only suggestion, i'd speed the fighters up just a little bit more, overall just...excellent man :)

Wow.
That was pretty sweet.
The only flaw I see is the Raptor's verticle stabilizers are supposed to be rounder.
It's still amazing the way it is, keep it up!

That's just Striker's unique style of modelling. ;)

Is there supposed to be sound in the movie? I can't seem to get anything - if there is I'll probably have download the DivX thing.

Also, I get nothing but blackness after 3:20, is that also supposed to be there?

Anyway, a lot more ships than I've seen in your previous work, very nice. :) The fighters do seem to fly in impossibly perfect formation, like the Victory group jump scene in WC3, but I understand the difficulty in trying to introduce independence in animation.

I quite enjoyed it myself. I liked the way the jump points looked when the ships went through. The only thing I would've done different is during that battle scene I might have gone with some fast Radiohead song. That's just a preference thing though.

It needs finetuning, but overall it's great. Far better thoughtout motion than most fanproject animations, although im not a fan of the slow "floaty" bolts. The rapier-dralthi dogfight through the fleet is a great touch also.

Great work, it would be a shame to abandon it! As the others said, some fine-tuning and touch-up will make this a really impressive work.
My personal opinion only: It gets a bit repetitive in the battle scene - but that depends on what you want to show. Throwing in some slower close-ups or following an idividual ship through a series of takes would loosen up the tangle a bit, or may even tell a little story. But well, that's just me.

Grrrrrreat work!

Dude... I mean, ha Dude... it's... oh Dude... that's good fleet action.
I personnally don't care if you CUT the resolution in half- I'll stick my face on the screen if I have to.
Bengal carriers never seem dangerous at first glance. But when the're firing like that, watchout! You know, they could even fire at a faster rate. I'd like to those puppys light up the sky with AAfire- really make it intense.

Pretty good so far, but there are a few things that ought to be changed.

If possible, at least for some scenes, make some transition between the scenes, it always cuts immideatly to the next scene. And in order to make the movement of the fighter groups a bit less monotonous, make some ships jingle a bit to the left and right. The laserbolts look strange at times, as if they are oriented at another direction than those they are flying into.
And finally, take another battle music. I don't kow what crack you were smoking, but what you have now(Nine Inch Nails, right) is probably the single most unfitting music for that scene you could probably find.

Well, thanks for the comments guys, I will try my best to revive this project. I especially appreciate all the advice, I will definitely go back and fine tune several of the aforementioned things. As for the music...well that was just temporary place fillers. No, it's not nine-inch nails, its Sean Comb's "Come With Me" but it was the only song I happened to have on my hard drive at the time, I'll probably switch to something without lyrics for a completed version. I plan on having the Kilrathi actually put one hell of a clinic on in this one and a couple of Fralthi are going to blow one of the Bengals to smithereens...as well as drop a few nukes on the planet.

@Wedge, there is limited sound to the movie as I put in some place fillers for explosions and such here an there...nothing like what a final release would have.

Ok I have taken a look at it...and I must say its quite nice, but some things bother me a little.

1) Even if the filesize is bigger make them in a higher resolution like 640*480 or 800*600.

2) Don't do the blackbars so big...give us a little more to look at ^_^

3) The musik in the battlepart..well it dosn't fit their...at least not for me...and you should keep the entire movie with one soundstile...its mostly better I think...except you have a good reason like a big plotchange. That would be something like seeing the ships in space with the orchastral sound and then you jump into a bar abord the ship where they have casino musik, but if you stay in space use orchastral music for all space scenes.
Thats just an idea....

4) The fighterformation look a little static, let them swing a little to the left and right. I know that this would be unrealistic, cause if you fly straigth in space you wont swing around, but thats just as we are used to see it...mostly from TV ^_^

5)Transitions....a hard cut is good for actionscenes, but with these orchastral music and slow moving ships some "slow" transitions (max 10 frams) it would look quite different and "bigger", cause transitions give you the feeling that things belong to each other while hard cuts normaly gives you the impression of change..well at least in theorie ^_^

6) Some lasers are moving in strange ways...like sliding ^_^

7) You have nice cameramovements but sometimes the camera just break its movement. If you could do it that the camera cames slowly to a stop it would be better. For example at 2:50 - 2:52 the camera follows a fighter, but then it just stops.

Ok that are the parts that I think could be done differently if you like....it might seam quite much and as if I am just critisising your work, but I only do that, because it looks quite good and when you sort out these last few thing it would be even better IMO.

Thanks guys, I'm working on a remake of this with higher resolution and standard format (no widescreen look), I'll try to post some updates from time to time.

i like it, i only saw 2-3 problems with it:

(main one)
-the fighter movement was a bit odd, it looked like the ships were stationary and the camera was moving around them

(oddities)
-some of the ralaris were upsidedown, i dont know if it was an attempt to emphasize that there is no up or down in space, but it looked odd to me.

-also the second piece of music cought me a tad off guard; it was funny though.

i think it is worth persuing, and i, personally, would enjoy seeing the finished product.

-brad
