Say What?

I was going over the scripts for Wing Commander 1 and 2 when I noticed something.

Didn't Jazz say that the Tiger's Claw went to chase after a troop ship instead of head straight to Goddard?

As far as I know from the scripts, and having played the Secret Missions consistently, the only time you are given an order to go after anything is something (a Lumbari, actually), blocking the path to Goddard. What goes?

The second mission in the Goddard system is an attack on a Dorkir troop carrier. The briefing reads (got it from the CIC game guides:

You'll jump to Nav Point One, where long range scans show something moving. Delete it. At Nav 2, you'll find a Dorkir-class troop carrier. They may be trying to leave the system. Don't let them.

So the Tiger's Claw did head after a troop transport instead of going straight to the colony. Jazz was correct.

At the same time, Jazz may have been technically correct, but it wouldn't have much changed the outcome.

Zach "Jazz" Colson was one of the most ridicilous and worst villains in the WC universe. His motivation is narrow minded, his attitude outside the cockpit is intolerable, and the only I can say good about him is his musical talent.

Oh, I don't know.

There's always room for the lunatics who think in small terms (i.e. a carrier and its crew) versus lunatics who think in grandiose terms (i.e. the majority of the human population).

I always thought Jazz was totally anticlimactic. I remember being so disapppointed... The idea of a traitor on board was so "Origin", I thought, I did play WC2 after WOG and SC... But when Jazz was revealed as the traitor I was a bit "ngeh", so to speak. And his motivation...

I mean, destroying thousands of lives on the TC, sabotaging whatever on the Concordia and killing god knows how many more... Because Halcyon ordered Blair out to kill a Dorkathi?! Just asinine...

Yeah, I guess so... THat's why it felt so anticlimactic to me. Instead of this elaborate scheme we're left with an apparent lunatic. I liked the whole Mandarin thing however...

It really depends. If you happened to like Spirit, then I'm sure that you would have wanted her murderer brought to justice. Colson's words at the end imply that he was.

True! However just because I did like Spirit, I wanted her murder to be grand in some bizarre way... Not just the act of a madman. The traitor seemed to have so many aces up his sleeve.

You don't exactly get awarded a medel, by Thrakhath no less, without them. I guess the thing was, it was something like Machine from 8MM. If you've seen it you'll know what I mean. If you haven't I don't want to spoil it for you.

8MM is a movie, where (spoiler)

Private Investigator Tom Welles is hired to investigate what appears to be a snuff film, involving a porn actor named Machine. Machine is a hulking brute who wears a leather mask and not much else. As Welles goes after the people behind the snuff films, he eventually discovers the identity of Machine, a fat ugly man who wears glasses and lives with his mother. I made the comparison because Colson is spiteful, ungreatful and ends up begging for his life, and is really the antithesis of a warrior. A warrior would look death straight in the eye, just look at Spirit, Angel, Hobbes, Thrakhath, Vagabond, ect.

It's been a while for me since I've played WC2 (my personal favorite... ) so some of the details have gotten foggy. But I'm pretty sure Jazz didn't have anything to do with the destruction of the Tiger's Claw. My take was that it was all a (I guess psychotic is an ok word) revenge thing. Maybe I'm a little delusional from lack of sleep right now, but I thought Jazz was pissed that his brother had died on the claw and so planned to kill off the Tiger's Claw survivors whom he viewed as responsible for his Brothers death...

It's not asinine if you keep in mind that he believed that Dorkir delayed them long enough to allow the colony to be destroyed. The fact that this is not actually correct (although we cannot be entirely certain of that) doesn't matter as long as he believes it's correct.

Yup, that's right. Michael Hayes, who those who are into wrestling might remember as one of the Freebirds, says that every heel (bad guy) has to have a reason for being bad. It doesn't matter how asinine it is, as long as they believe they are right.

As for Colson not having anything to do with the destruction of the Tiger's Claw, well, I'm certain that it goes that he knew about the Strakha...think that's how it's spelt, and did something to Blair's flight recorder, but he was back on the Austin by then.

Ok things are starting to get clearer! your right... Jazz's brother died in the colony... I actually played wc1 more recently than wc2. I really enjoyed how the SM 1 + 2 led into and set up WC2. It was actualy the first chance I had to play sm2.
