Runing Wing Commander Prophecy or Sec Ops in Win 2000

hey everyone,
I just tried to load Wing Commander Prophacy and Secret Ops on my computer which is now running Windows 2000 and it won't load. Any thoughts?

I think that Win2k and ME are the most incompatimple Wins of all.

Why dont you put Win98 (my favorites)....

You can run almost anything there

Yes , some games (Privateer) still have problems.

I also think that the Win98SE are more incompatimple to DOS games than the first edition.

Win ME - Not exactly
Win 2K - YES

What I mean is, since Win 2k is actually Win NT 5, it's not the same KIND of incompatibility as with Win ME. Win NT is built on a pure 32-bit code base, so it makes a world of sense that 16-bit (or mixed 16/32-bit) coded programs would have trouble with it. Win ME, on the other hand, being built on the, shall we say, 'hybrid' 16/32-bit code base (characteristic of all the Win 9x's), "should" be able to run all WC's. At least in theory. Too bad MS had to go and release a "downgrade" OS when they unloosed Win ME on the public. Schmucks.

BTW, from what I've read, it seems Win2K is a lot more gamer-friendly than Win XP is. At least so far.

I'll answer that real quick. I'm running a Network now. I tried to run this same network with 98SE running it. I got 98se to run it. but could not load anything new on the system. So games, out of the queston!

Well, I dont know guys. From my Expirience (I had Win95/Win98/Win98Se/WinME/WinXP) ,only Win98 (first version)
has no probs with almost no games and programs.

I know have WinXP (for the newer games) and Win98 (for older/dos games and WC) in differernt (NTFS/Fat32) partitions and I got no problem.

The only WC problem is Privateer (how unusual) and Prophecy cause it skips video frames even with the acceleration from dxdiag off.....

In my experience, this has not been the case.
Really? Man, that's curious, cuz I read that in multiple places in the PC press (gaming mags, PCW & PC mag, etc.; can't cite specific sources/articles, cuz I didn't write 'em down or anything).

:( Sometimes I get a real hard time understanding what Preacher is saying, cause (cuz!) Im not from US.At least Im learning a diffrent "version" of the US english language from him, even if my English teacher has another opinion:rolleyes:

I know how you feel.
Around here (the US) we call it "slang"; the academics among us sometimes refer to it as "the vernacular". I'm sure it exists in other languages as well.

Oftentimes (as is usually the case with me), it's simply easier/quicker to type "'cuz" instead of "because", etc. Saves time.

Of course, if the English language/spelling was more straightforward (like other languages), and the rules more uniform, such shortcuts would be hella lot less necessary...

I'm well aware that it's slang. I just think that the time saved by avoiding three or four key presses is negligible and not worth sounding silly.
