Retro's Kilrathi ship

BlueClaw

Spaceman
Commander Kahl gave the Retros a small amount of Kilrathi ships that could prove to be formidable at times, and always happened to be waiting for you at a jump point at some critical point in the game. Were those Kilrathi ships a variant of the Shok'lar from Armada?

Naw, Shok'lar was a ripoff of Privateer :p Which originally used models from the fairly obscure Super Wing Commander for Macintosh and 3DO...

Salthi? Hmmm, must have been a heavily upgraded one to have been that deadly. But, anyway, while we're on the issue of Privateer, do you reckon that the Gothri heavies of WC2 were more deadly than those of Privateer?

The Salthis on RF were a little off-scale, they seem to be bigger than the WC1 Salthi.

I think the Gothri in wc2 and priv were both deadly, the difference is that, in privateer, you had a centurion with 4 fusion cannons and lots of shield, so the enemy look easier.

I heard about the rf stuff before, but I didnt get one thing (since I never played it)

what was the retro's conection to the kilrathi and why did that kat commander give the retros some of their ships?

I think it had something to do with the fact that the Retros had begun to mass-produce the Steltek gun, and the Kilrathi were so worried that they might give the weapon to the Confed war effort, that they struck a deal with the Retros. They would give them additional ships, while the Retros would keep the Steltek weapon to themselves and use it to harm Confed as much as possible.

Only marginally IMO, beacuse the turrets in WC2 are more deadly than in Priv. . They were good ships in both games.

They were just selling off surplus ships to destabilize the region -- Confed couldn't fight both more-powerful Retros *and* the Kilrathi.

(It's actually a fairly common Kilrathi practice, apparently -- we see them provide obsolete Dralthi to the Dolosians on WCA...)

No, I think that's actually the Dioskerns from 'Lords of the Sky' they give the obsolete Dralthi fighters to. The Dolosians were just slaves they used to build the pyramid in 'Glory of Sivar'.

Wow, LOAF got one wrong. :) Hey, we all make slip-ups.

I used to think the Salthi in RF was a Shok'lar as well.

Interesting that the ships in Privateer are supposed to be civilian variants which would in no way compare to military grade ships... yet both the Gothri and Broadswords of the Gemini sector are still quite easy kills. Of course, this is always explained away by saying the Gemini sector is 'backwater'...

They're pics from LOAF's source files before the ships were converted to sprites.

Several of SWC's ships were recycled in later WC games.

There's nothing the Kilrathi love more than recycling Salthi.

We see torpedo-bomber Salthi in Armada, Salthi-for-sale in Rightous Fire, Salthi-modified-as-recon-ships in False Colors... and arguably Salthi-with-cloaks in Armada.

Torpedo bomber in Armada? I don't follow that one...

And the Shok'lar does look like a Salthi, but that doesn't mean it is a Salthi - else why call it another name?

I dunno, why call the cloakable Sartha a Strakha :)?

The torpedo-Salthi is from Voices of War -- one of the Kilrathi news announcements is about a group of Salthi torpedo-ing a Confed ship.

Since when does a Sartha cloak?

And, yeah, I found the torpedoing Salthi reference (see my Voices of War thread).

Ah, WCATV. I think that was one of the few episodes I managed to see... was the cloaking Sartha only an experimental version?
