Retro Wc1 Ships made NEW!

Good grief. You guys have the attention span of a fruitfly. :D Anything older than this post shall be ignored, allright?

Anyhow, here's the new Aera fighters. The other one will be used as the basis for the Rlaan. Makes a sweet drone, eh?

With all the discussion about punctuation, I seem to have missed the explanation for what these ships have to do with Wing Commander. Fill me in, would you?

This is tricky. Half this thread belongs in Fan Projects and Editing, half belongs in Off-Topic and the other half should be deleted. I'll just move it to Fan Projects.

OK, that does it... I want TUTORIALS! How did you model those ships? that's not really the issue the more important one... HOW are you making the textures? have you got a formula you use when making textures?

scheherazade: As far as I know, dan and I are doing about 75-25 with me being the 25. I take note of the coordinates of all the stuff (weapons, engines, etc) and hand it over to Dan. According to him, It's saving him hours of work, which is what I'm all about.

As for what I'm modelling in, TopGun gets a cookie. It is indeed 3DSMAX4. As for how I'm making the textures, I'm using Photoshop 6, and simple layer and line drawing techniques. The key is to make the surfaces look worn, and to do that you need to smudge, erase, and blur some parts (most parts, really) of the ships' texture. I have a different technique for each of the different races, simply cause I don't want them to look too alike.

Here's a short animation of the Wayfarer taking off from a large Human colony. This is exactly how it'll look in the game engine. Just click the ship and watch it take off. Heh. Some may note the fancy shadow on the floor. It's not actually a shadow, but a single textured polygon that mnoves, rotates, and grows acording to the ships' position.

I can't post any textures right now, but I'll get around to it. :D
As for those guns, it's the next step. I had to get the main, basic crusier design done first.

Rest assured, the gun models will rock.

Enjoy!

Didn't think a cruiser would need tail fins that big, but looks good anyway. The big 'fin' under the bow reminds me of the Nebulon B frigate from Star Wars. :)
