Red Alert 3 Dials 867-5309 (August 21, 2008)

Long Live the Confederation!
Electronic Arts has some interesting news -- Red Alert 3 will feature a large cast of 'name' actors rivaling that of Wing Commander III... which even includes one Wing Commander star (Tim Curry, Original Melek)! GameZine reports:
The most famous people in the cast include game veteran Tim Curry (Rocky Horror Picture Show, Congo), Kelly Hu (The Scorpion King, Sammo Hung's Martial Law), Jenny McCarthy (Scream 3, Playboy magazine) and George Takei (Star Trek, Prisoners of the Sun).

Other notable appearances will be made by Gemma Atkinson (Hollyoaks), Andrew Divoff (Lost), Ivana Milicevic (Casino Royale), Jonathan Pryce (Pirates of the Caribbean), JK Simmons (Law and Order, Juno), Autumn Reeser (The OC) and Peter Stormare (Prison Break, Armageddon).
Quite a slap in the face to everyone who ever declared the big budget interactive movie dead -- including us! Sounds great - but where's Kari Wuhrer?

Separated at birth?!

Well if anyone knows about Gemma they will know that shes just as nice maybe even more so!! its always good to see a brit!!

I just hope the writing and direction are good this time. No point having good orchestra players if your conductor is a moron. :)

Gemma atkinson is a wonderfull piece of craftmanship, wich is too bad, she was more than a pretty site natural already.

I'm not sure *good* writing and direction are what's needed here -- Red Alert should be campy as all get-out... and this cast is a great start in that direction.

Is this a sign of a comeback for the big budget interactive movie games if It's a success? I certainly wouldn't mind that at all.

I was playing through Privateer 2 and it's just weird to see so many faces of people you like in the movies in a video game.

My read on it is they are using live-action to stay true to the series, which certainly bodes well for any Wing Commander games in the making.

Well for me I really loved RA1, and I remember it was serious. I didnt like too much what they did with RA2, its like they had their tounge firmly planted in their cheeks at all times!

I don't think that even the original was really serious -- it started a with a caricature of Einstein inventing a time machine and going back in time to kill Hitler... and got zanier from there :)

Yeah, the acting of most Soviet personas was over the top, especially Stalin's. It didn't appear very serious to me.

It had a couple of moments: when Kane first shows up as a éminence grise and everyone looks away, and when Stalin has this random guy sign death sentences (it seems something Stalin would do).

The part where most (all?) Soviet officers got killed by their own rulers was realistic enought.

I don't know if I'd go as far as to say that if RA3 is succesful, you'll see a resurrgence of live action footage in games. C&C always had live action. Right from the start in 1995. Since then all of the games in the Tiberuim wars and Red Alert series' have had it. You really couldn't make either of those without live action. The same way you could never do a major release Wing Commander game without it. It's just part and parcel of the series and people expect it. It's also a massive cash cow for EA and thus they can afford to spend the dollars to do this stuff. I don't find it at all surpising that RA3 will have a cast such as this - Just look to C&C3 to see that this was pretty well to be expected all along.

That isn't to say I'm not very glad to see they're dedicated to creating a completely camp live action bonanza for the new game - I am. I can't wait to see J.K. Simmons and Tim Curry in this - Both are very good actions and both have shown themselves to excel at turning on the camp when it is required! :D

Well, that's the interesting thing... I don't know that these games *are* a massive cash cow right now. EA has been green lighting C&C games right and left (most before C&C3 even hit the market) but they aren't topping any sales charts. They're investing in rebuilding the brand rather than just taking advantage of a smash hit, which is really interesting (and hopeful to me).
