I was just looking at the ranks, and I was wondering.... a Major General has two stars, and a Lt. General has Three stars... How come your Major General outranks your Lt. General?
 
Because that's how it works in Wing Commander. Take a look at Victory Streak's rank chart.
 
This is a WC Themed ForumTM... if you don't like how Origin/Roberts set it up, take it up with them, they'd gladly tell you to go away.
 
well, actually the ranks ARE wrong....

I took special note while playing WC3 a minute ago. Blair is a Colonel, correct? His rank insignia had the broken line at the bottom, not the top as the CZ does.

Also, just various nitpicking, isn't Colonel in the Space Force equivalent of a Navy Captain? And if so, why is Captain Eisen's insignia different? He was a solid rectangle (albeit the gray Navy color)

hmm...I retract my statement about Blair's rank insignia....in other missions, it is correct...

However, somebody check that. I think they had the insignia on upside down in the Blackmane system....i'm 100% I saw it upside down....

EDIT -

Hmm...then what is Rollins' rank....his insignia is gray, and has the broken line at the top. Are the Navy ranks physically different from the Space Force ranks? (or was Rollins' insignia on wrong in Blackmane too?)

Because how you have it, if the Space Force and Navy use the same symbols for their ranks, Eisen is a Commodore and Rollins is a Captain....

Simple logic should really answer this question for you pretty easily.

Question: Are Space Forces and Navy ranks the same?

Fact: Eisen is a Captain.
Fact: Blair is a Colonel.
Fact: Eisen and Blair have different looking ranks.

Draw your own {OBVIOUS} conclusion...

Yes, it is fairly obvious that's the answer.

It just seems odd....the ranks are all VERY similar, so why would Navy ranks be Space Force ranks...just in a different order? Really, it doesn't matter, but it's kind of annoying.

I noticed that too... however Blair's rank insigina is the wrong way when he is talking to rachel but it's the other way around in other scenes

I think the costume people were drunk sometimes...I was just in a breifing sometime after Blackmane, and Rollins' rank was actually sideways...
 
i wonder if it was the actors who did it themselves... one time in high school, we had a guest speaker who was an actor and he said that they would do that from time to time... i think he was Karate Kid 2 or something and they kept on changing there uniforms for each take just to mess up the movie...
 
Eh, it's pretty normal for a movie to have someone who keeps track of such things. They take polaroids of all the actors between takes so they can make sure outfits are the same throughout.

WCIII was made by comparative amateurs, though, for as cheap as possible -- it may not have had a continuity guy (I know Prophecy did, though).

I will point out that this isn't wrong... it's different. In 600 years it's quite possible that the ordering of ranks could change.
 
I'm just going to look at the American system of ranking because it's probably what you're most familiar with...

Second lieutenants replaced the Army's coronets, ensigns and subalterns at some point.

Ensigns showed up in the navy in 1862

Sergeant Major arrived in the Army structure in 1966

Apparantly the US's navy ranks only went up to Captain (with multiple levels of Captain) until flag ranks were added in 1857... They had existed in the British system but not used by the US.

Technicians and Specialists have been added to the rank structure with similar insignia to enlisted men, the same pay scale, yet without the ability to command... a somewhat large change in the way things work...

There are all kinds of changes to the rank structure...

Actually, I've changed my mind. I'lll dip to the British system for a moment...

Majors outrank Lieutenants, while Lt. Generals outrank Maj. Generals. This originally came from the fact that Generals who were appointed for campaigns were called Captain Generals. Their subordinates were, therefore, called Lt. Generals. The cheif administrative guy was called Sergeant Major General. At some point, the Sergeant got lost.

Apparantly someone in the next 600 years thought that was stupid and changed it.
