Question: WC1 characters

A squadron allocates a callsign that it's familiar with using. Therefore minimizing communication problems. I mean honestly who would go to the trouble of memorizing Wedge Zero Zero Nine? :p ;)

So Blair would still be called Mavrick, but when hes flying a mission with gold squadron, hes gold one or gold leader.

Hey, the 009 is only there 'cause some other guy with two posts grabbed Wedge first.

Perhaps I should be addressed as Rogue Lead, then. :)

Like "Watchdog Leader" or "Alpha One" something -- a set of callsigns is generally assigned on a mission-by-mission basis.

I remember in the WC4 novel that the Thunderbolts used in a capital ship strike were labled "Thor"

By the way, I believe that Spirit's name is Mariko Tanaka, not the other way around. She is Japanese, and I believe that Japanese names follow the same model as European names, i.e. personal name first, family name last. And Blair calls her Mariko.

Actually, family name goes first in the asian world. This was used to show clan honor and prestige. The given or "personal" name was used to denote who they were within that diasese.

It still is in my culture (I'm Sri Lankan.) The way I write my name now is the westernised form, but usually the family name goes first.

Best, Raptor

This is unfortunate, since the Eastern culture is one of the strongest and most historically detailed in the world.
I can't stand the westernization of anything... :(

Hey, Raptor, Ever run into Arthur C Clarke? :)

Er... what's unfortunate? The fact that this aspect of Eastern cultures remains as strong as ever? :)

Whats unfortunate is the fact that everyone seems to becoming "Americanized". I can't stand that.

Well yes, I completely agree, but your comment didn't make much sense in this context, since we were just talking about how in this case, the Eastern way of doing things is very much still alive.

Apparently I should hand out sunglasses since my logic is so blinding. :)

I meant to say its a sad fact that, say, Japan is becoming Westernized by McDonalds and...::shudder:: Jerry Bruckheimer ...when their culture is so much more older and full of history and we're seemingly destroying their "culture" by them adopting Americanization.

Personally, if I could speak Japanese better, I'd rather be there than here. Hell, I eat Ramen everyday here as it is. :)
