Question for WC war vets...

Saturnyne

Vice Admiral
My question is this, since no one has asked it, at least as far as I know.

What is your favorite part of flying in Wing Commander? I'll give you an example.

In the WCP flight simulator, Level 7, you defend the Midway against an onslaught of Kilrathi fighters. With the planet in the background, it always makes me think of the battle for earth that is mentioned in the novels if I'm right. But that's not my favorite part.

My favorite part was when I was chasing a cat down the length of the Midway, bow to stern, burning just inches above the hull of the giant supercarrier.

What is your favorite part of flying, or the most memorable action sequence or action you've done?

My favorite missions have to be each time that I blew the shit out of Thrakath, and the mission in SO 1 where it is you and Hobbes in Sabres flying against an entire Kat strike force defending Olympus Station in Ghorah Khar.

I like strike missions -- the ones that stand out in my mind right now are the rescue the Dralthi mission in SM1 (returning to the first nav against orders), the mission in SM2 where you find a convoy of Fralthi, and the Dralthi II recon mission where you run into a pair of Snakeir.

The best is in the Midway flight simulator (Level 5 was it i guess), when there are so much cats and after 10 minutes you have 50 kills. Man, 5 kills in 1 minute. That makes you feel like a real war vet !!!

Ow yes, and to stay away from the corvette. The WCP cat corvette, when you come in turret range it's to close for comfort.

WOW! Hard Question I'd say...

In WC I, the one that stayed into my memory is when Spirit and I got to fly patrol in Raptors if I remember.

First RDV with TCS Austin in an asteroid field at nav 1, then engage a couple of Jalthis in a mine field at nav 2, and THEN... WOW!!

Come upon some 6 (correct me if I'm wrong Bandit) Rapiers and an Exeter-class capship, all flown by Cats!!!
Oh boy! That's when you realise how good and reliable are those damn Rapiers, he he...

I remember I had to fly that mission three or four times (yeah, I know I suck :( LOL) before I managed to nail that capship, Gwenhyvar as it was called, and avoided getting me or my wingman killed...

Still, once I did get the mission accomplished, I remember getting a nice Bronze Star as a reward :)

Other favourite missions include the T-Bomb run on Kilrah, the one where Vagabond dies (sniff, not because he dies, but because of the originality of the mission with those manned pods...), and the one where you sneak onto the Vesuvius with the captured Dragon!

Boy, WC IV ahd some really amazing and original missions!!

Hm, I like the Shy Meadows mission... It always requires you to movie quickly, be carefull with your target selection, and kill quickly. The whole thing requires a lot of precision.

I like the mission in WC2 where you have to recover the data pod from the destroyed transport, and your flying a broadsword.

Hmm, in WC1 and WC2 the missions where you fly against Kilrathi aces because they have such cool remarks. And in SM2 the missions where you fly a Dralthi.
In WC3 when you have to destroy the shield generator on Freya.
In WC4, the mission where you infiltrate the Black Lance is great, I agree (with that nice movie when Tolwyn says: To seperate the chaff from the wheat and when all those back clad guys begin to yell and Blair's face when he realizes that it is Tolwyn...). And in WCP the gauntlets against the cats/bugs in the simulator.

WC2 doesn't hold any really memorable memories for me...I'd really have to say a lot of WC1 missions I loved, though. Like first Raptor flight, first encounter with Hhriss, flying past hordes of Jalthi and Drakhai Hhriss and a couple of Snakeirs in a Dralthi...speaking of which...that damn escort-the-Dralthi-home mission from WC1...that was hard! :-) Almost as hard as that Kurasawa Ralari escort mission. Escorting Ralgha's Fralthi home really isn't a problem, though.

The Scimitar was capable...plenty of missiles and shields. I will say the Dralthi ][ was a great upgrade, more speed, same guns, and lots more maneuverability. Plus, an opportunity to fry Jazz a bit early.

I kid you not my friend.
did you check the guns on that thing, like i said before, i like to take out my foes with one volly, and the scims can do that. (so Can the Excal, wich is my fav) oh yess, i remmeber the excalibur test flight, taking that bird up on that joyride against those troop transports, ahh those were the days.

oh and DredNot; how could you say that WC2 doesn't hold good memory? WC2 is the best in series, WC2 MADE Wing Commander, the story, the action, the MUSIC (for that time, and still)
