Hello there,

first of all: Thanks to ya guys for this awesome remake!!!!

But: Everytime I save and quit the program, the next time i load the program i still have the same amount of credits, but all my upgrades (or at least all my weapons, didn't check the others) are gone. For weapons, i only have the standart laser then...

what to do?

Thanks,

Dio

Win

actually it seem to be working when you own the centurion

All kinds of savegame-related bugs may occur if using savegames created by previous version of the game. I think it's best to start a new game when major updates like this 1.0pre5 -> 1.0 happens.

Altough I'm daring to use my savegame from pre5+wcu in final 1.0+without wcu and no major problems yet... Only saw completely invisible Kilrathi carrier in my radar :)

First of all, thanks for bringing back Privateer, and speciall thanks to Hellcat for the engine. One hell of a good engine, considering it can do realistic physics, and yet is flexible enough to emulate old WC pseudophysics ;-)
A donation is acoming, I pledge $100, just gotta go to the bank and get a MO. This week, for sure.

Now the bad news:

I'm running the Linux version, first install, medium difficulty, NOT using any previous version save games as this is my first install, and I get two savegame related bugs:

1) Occasionally it forgets what my last savegame was, or maybe it doesn't read the date and time of the files correctly, so it starts by default in the wrong savegame, and I have to manually load game and select the last savegame manually.

2) Two bugs seem to relate to the radar and to savegame. They occurr during the missions for the Oxford library.

2a. In the second mission, against Black Rhombus, if I destroy the Black Rhombus ship near me or while colliding with it, my radar loses the ID coloring, but even after returning to oxford and repairing it, the ID feature is still lost for all subsequent missions. I found the only way this doesn't happen is if I destro the Black Rhombus from a distance. I have a Centurion and the BS Omni. I say this relates to the savegame because repairing of the Omni doesn't seem to get saved.

2b. In the third mission (escorting the rare books shipment against hunters) the hunters appear green, as friends, and won't shoot at me at all, only the cargo ship, no matter how much I shoot at them. This did not happen the first time I tried to play this mission. however. The first time, the leader looks green while he says he'll take the books, then turns red; but every time I've tried to replay this mission he stays green on my radar, and so I cannot pass the mission, since I cannot get them to target me.
I say this relates to the savegame because, otherwise, quitting the game and restarting it would cure the problem, but it doesn't.

Unless you can come up with a quick manual edit I could do, I suppose I'll have to go out and hunt a few hunters, to make sure they are my enemies before going into this mission...

Cheers!

Update: I'm still trying to get through the mission escorting the books Oxford-bound.
What I've done is go out and insult and kill hunters, in order to be enemies with them prior to doing the mission. I got them to be enemies to me anywhere else, but not in this mission. Instead of red, they appear as brown on the radar, and they ignore me, even as I'm shooting at them.

Another bug, I believe, in this mission's data, is that it does not clear the presence of random AI units. This last time I tried, besides the hunters, there was one retro and two kilrathis. The retro was a momentary annoyance, but the two kilrathis also start attacking the ship I'm supposed to escort, while the hunters are attacking it, and it just so happens I'm friendly with kilrathis, so there's no way I can pass this mission like that.

Has anyone else found this mission so problematic in Remake?
Running Linux version (on FC2), first install, current version.

Another update: Still stuck on the mission to escort the books oxfordbound. I took time off oxford and went to palan, just to kill hunters, so that they'd become my enemies. Brought it down to -100 in my hunters' PR score. Then headed back to oxford. Once again, the hunters attacking the ship turn brown, not red; --though it becomes easier to get them to red. So I got that side of the equation taken care of. What still gets me is that there are also retro and kilrathi attacking the books shipment. Do I now have to go out and become enemies with the kilrathi as well, to pass this mission?

Anybody attacking the ship should automatically become an enemy in my radar, at least for the duration of the mission. That's how it worked out in the original privateer. No?
Or could someone tell me whether this is the way it's supposed to be?

if they care about the transport they may ignore you to attack it

make them angry by hitting 4 to insult them

Unfortunately you have to repeatedly press the key, not hold it down.

I cheat by setting up auto-repeat modifiers on my programmable joystick for all comms options. I can piss people off or make them happy simply by holding the button down. :)

I must have tried about 20 more times to get past this mission, hitting H then 4 multiple times, then H again, and so on, while gunning when possible, or launching missiles if they are too close to the ship I have to escort; but it's all to no avail, they always get the ship. Help! I just want this mission out of my face.

Hi there.......

I got the same problem please help us....

Is there no cheat or something like that?

Thanks

There are no cheats, as such, but you can edit many of the files. I ended up cheating to pass that mission. What I did was slow down the demons. I opened up the units.csv file and drastically lowered their speed and rate of turning. In that file, you'll see the various models of ships down the first column, and the parameters along the first row. For each ship, there are blank and template models, and often some mil-spec models. Blank is the ship without upgrades. Template is the maximum conceivable upgrade, and mil-spec are non-blank standard models. Along the top row, you find a couple of fields called speed governor and afterburner governor, or something like that. I divided their values by 10 for all demon variants. I also divided by 10 all the angular speed and acceleration and turning rate governor settings.
But I must say, I regret it, I should have given Draymans a bunch of turrets for defense, instead; but that's a bit more work, as you have to figure out the coordinates where to place them. Changes you make to units.csv do not affect your ship, if you already bought it; but if you are flying a demon don't lower the parameters for demon.template, as your ship's parameters should not exceed the parameters of the template type. Make sure you backup the file before you start.
HTH

I gave the Drayman six laser turrets, plus reducing the speed and turn governors on the Demons. It was the only way to pass that mission, after restarting it well over 40 times. :(
The game cheats, what with throwing out 20-odd insanely flying Demons plus random Retros and Cats to fight off, so if cheating back is the last resort, then so be it.
