Privateer - Alliance Problems...

Most probably. BTW: Can you put such a high "pro-Confed counter" on your record that even when you play the whole game (where you have to piss off Confed sometimes, at least the Militia) that they will not be generally unfriendly to you?

One of my players had a kill score of 743 against the pirates and 569 against the Retros, which gave enough "pad" for Confed/militia/mercs to be somewhat your friends. That particular player however was also enemies to the Kilrathi, and that killscore was 379. If you give yourself enough killscore against the Retros/pirates/Kilrathi, it should leave you with some room to experiment, or accidently test your new Steltek gun on some Confed Paradigms!

I think the game follows a default of 5 kills of pirates/retros/kilrathi for every 1 confed ship/milita/mercs/merchants. So just keep in mind that ratio and you should be fine! I personally like the game where everyone is friends and all you do is take out those insane Retros! Its fun flying next to a huge wing of Kilrathi Gothris and their capship! :D

I haven't had the chance to read everyone's experiences yet, so here's my two cents...

At the start of RF, you can fly missions for Lynn Murphy, Masterson, Tayla and Sandra Goodin -- you have to complete all four series before you can proceed.

Actually, it's only a certain percentage before Masterson agrees to set you up with Monte. I didn't find Tayla until the second time I started RF.

As for the merc blockade at Palan, if you don't kill them all, you don't get the money for the mission, even though the storyline can still continue. I had always accumulated enough pirates kills by that stage, so I only made the Hunters neutral towards me after Palan. Only needed a few pirates to get them to return to friendly.

I have 0 kills for Confed/Militia/Merchants and about 63 kills for Hunters. Kilrathi/Retro/Pirate kills are 3 digits each! :)

Firepower

Always prefered the blunter approach myself. Load up on the
best ordnance, armor, and shields money could buy. The same
goes for engines to power all of that. Then keep up your
speed, and ram it down their throats. I usually came out of
it, but sometimes somewhat scorched.:)

But I will never kill an innocent Kilrathi!

Eh? Any Kilrathi in Gemini are part of the military force against Confed, or are privateers like yourself. Hardly what I'd call 'innocent'.

It was not meant serious. (That the Kilrathi are innocent, still I would not kill one. That would mean I help mpanty and Zor Prime.).
And Wedge you sure ARE peaceful with just 82 kills. Have you finished the game with this score or is it your score at the moment?

Surely one of the main, if not the main attraction of Privateer/RF is the fact we’re a law unto ourselves. What are our scruples? Do we fight only the good fight against the Kilrathi and the Retros, or do we “give in” to more selfish instincts and concentrate on being a hunter or even a pirate. No other WC game (though P2 tries) grants us this degree of moral scope. Do we have any qualms in running contraband for Tayla; do we go ahead and kill Seelig even though we don’t have to? Maybe outside the missions we decide it’s okay to run contraband generally, or maybe only tobacco but not Brilliance or Ultimate. Do we engage in the slave trade? If a hunter, do we go after only Retros, or Retros and pirates, or other hunters as well?

In the end, our kill scores may be saying more about our “darker side” than we’d like.:)

Privateer and RF indeed was the most open ended game considering you could do just about anything you wanted. P2 tried that, but left out alot of interactivity. In Privateer and RF, there was interactivity, even in flight. P2 lacked that interactivity. Not knockin P2, but it did lack something. I also didnt like the fact you couldnt haul cargo yourself, but some of those cargo ships packed some mean turrets that would work in your favor!!

Oh yes an Ilia MKII was indeed welcome additional firepower. But I found the larger transports quite unneceassary, I never hauled that much cargo. The largest one I ever hired was an Ogan.

The p2edit proggy will let you fly those cargo ships, as well as any of the pirate/military ships, even those huge crusiers! I love that military destroyer and its mega turret!! :D

What?? Cool  I have to grab it immediately. I assume it is availabkle here at the CIC? I always wanted to fly an Papago Ashearer! Or the Jincilla Skull!

I think it is still linked thru the CIC files section under the Privateer 2 files. If not I can get it to ya, very small proggy.

Hmm, I cannot find it. Only a P2 patch and a midnight editor, whatever that is. I would appreciate it if you sent it to me. My address is Raphaels.Epost@gmx.de

You bet. Expect that in ur email soon. Oh I dont know if this works with the delux edition that runs in win95, but I think it will since it merely edits the save game files. It doesnt modify the tre data, so it should work fine. Love that Jancilla Skull!! :)

Just another note, the midnight editor is for the win version so that one should work if you got the win95 ver of P2. But I will send the dos version once I get to the house and pull it up in my cd archives. So stay tuned to your email!

Thanks a lot, RFBurns. Hopefully your wife did not hide your WC box again. :D
BTW, I have the normal (German) DOS version, so no problem should be occuring.
What was the top speed of the Skull? 560? Oh boy...

Ya that Skull really moves! I think it topped with AB at 1520kps!! Fastest ship in the whole game! Very very manuverable, almost too manuverable!!
