Privateer - Alliance Problems...

Heh, well I got a game question! Near the end of Privateer when you fight the Palan Mercenary blockade, I accidently went on a rampage and killed 50+ mercs. In the process I befriended the pirates and made the confed and militia enemies. However, after a few pirate kills, I was able to get confed and militia neutral again WITH the pirates still friendly (happy middle i'd say...helped great on the ES missions later). However, this is annoying because the Hunters (mercs) are now my enemies and I can't kill them because i'll piss off confed and militia. I'm trying to get back on their good side, but I dont' know how. I've killed numerous retros and kilrathi since then but so far, bubcus.

If anyone has any suggetions, please respond! Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope *switch*.

I think the Bounty Hunters will always be your enemies. You pissed of a lot of people, including Roman Lynch. You cannot get back to friendly terms with all mercs by shooting a specific group (perhaps if you communicate with them during flight, but I doubt it). Only mean I could think about that somebody gives you as payment thte clearance of your record at the Bounty Hunter guild but I do not think that this happens in Priv.

You can kill a lot of pirates... or, when you get to Rightous Fire, go visit Roman Lynch -- for 200,000 (or if you kill Menesch) he'll clean your record and everyone will be your friends again...

No, they don't stay your enemies. All you have to do
is not shoot any more down, and go on a retro-pirate-
Kilrathi hunt. After you've massacred enough of them,
the hunters will start becoming neutral, then friendly.

True story: My wife played privateer, and decided to
play it "nice" -- she only gunned down opponents if they
actually needed to die in the story line, but otherwise
completely avoided combat with ANYONE.

The result? She got to Palan, and if memory serves after
she got past that not only the hunters hated her but Confed
and militia had gone from Friendly to Neutral! My memory's
a little foggy, but they may even have been hostile! Guess
nice guys really do finish last, at least in Privateer --

Respectfully,

Brian P.

You can also use the comm chat to make them more friendlier. This worked for me and the Kilrathi. Initally, it took several goes of the 'friendly' comm message to make them friends. However, as time went on, it became less and less.

The only group that it didn't seem to work for was...*drumroll* YOU GUESSED IT! The Retros!

Dont waste time trying to get the mercs at Palen your friends, they wont! Dont kill to many of them cause the kills count against you with mercs and the militia as well as Confed! Just haul @$$ to Palen and pick up Monkhouse!

speaking of killing Menesch, I'm still at the begining of RF Talya I think it was, tells you to kill menesch, then confed. What do you do once you've beaten those two sets of missions?

At the start of RF, you can fly missions for Lynn Murphy, Masterson, Tayla and Sandra Goodin -- you have to complete all four series before you can proceed.

Hehe, I try to go with the nice guy approach on Privateer. I'm not doing too bad really. It's slow making money by just doing cargo runs, but hey, it's a living.

Of course, I only kill people who need to be killed. Kilrathi are killed on sight. They aren't people!

Kilrathi are people too, they're just not nice people. I've tried the friendly approach as well. It sucked, I just like violence. Too bad the retros won't be friendly, one time I had nearly everyone liking me, or at least indifferent. Surprisingly so, actually. Pirates, Kats were friendly, and the BHs and Feds were neutral. And then one day I flew into Perry space and had a whole lot of Confeds out for my skin. So I figured, hell, why not? I slaughtered them. That was the game where I was bored and sat there trying to destroy New Constantinople... the shots hit, they just never did damage it. Damn bases. Wish you could have killed them. Oh well.

There are a few more missions to go thru before you take out Menesch. If I remember right, after going thru Confed's missions, you need to head over to Oxford and do a few missions for Masterson. He will get ahold of his contact in Nexus after you complete the Oxford missions. This contact will have you also do a few missions, and then he tells you where to look for Gov. Menesch. This is where meeting up with Roman Lynch in Pyranees he offers you a deal if you take out Gov. Menesch. Lynch will clear your records so that everyone is your friends again if you succeed in taking out Menesch. Just dont forget to go back to Pyranees so he will clear your record. Then go find Murphy, Capt Goodin for the bounty rewards. Then its off to Confed once again and talk to the good Admiral to get a few more missions. This is where you begin the search for Jones, the Retro leader. It gets interesting from here! Then some pirate will contact you to meet up with an informant in Capella. From there is where you will get info and data on the location of the Retro base and Jones and his hord of wanabees!!

So it is possible to get on friendly terms with the mercs without playing RF and accepting Lynch's offer? Didn't know that! But I wonder if it is worth the price of getting both the pirates and the Kilrathi against you.
I played Priv and RF throigh without ever killing a single Kilrathi. They are the only honourable race in that quadrant.
Ladiesman: Arr. You are on my list now, for insulting the Kilrathi! (of course I can imagine that you do not care much about that! :D )

Since it requires a certian number of kills of the cats and pirates and retros to get on Confed/mercs/militia good side, I usually head straight for Kilrathi space after buying the Centurion and loading it up with top equipment and weapons and have a blast fest!! Take out enough Kilrathi so you build up a "safety pad" so that in some of the missions where you take on mercs, such as the Palen mission, you may still end up on their good side after all that, then when you go into RF, your "friend/foe" stats go with you if you select an old Privateer ship. Even then I head over to Kilrathi space and take out more cats! Kill that capship as many times as possible, which racks up 5 kills for one capship! Try to lure that capship away from the nav point "aprox 13,000km", then just as he starts to turn back towards the nav point, take him out, and head back to that nav point and another cap ship will appear!! Do the same over and over and each time rack 5 kills for one cat cap ship!! :D

Well, another candidate for my list. :) My KIlrathi masters will be very interested in these information.
Why does everybody want to make peace with COnfed or the Militia etc...? I found the Kilrathi the biggest threat in Priv1 (okay, Stilettos can get annoying).

The Kilrathi were certainly the most *dangerous* enemies -- but you hardly ever encoutnered them... making peace with Confed and the Militia, with whom you constantly encounter, was far more important (G)

I wasn't aware you could ally yourself with the cats. I mean, in the beginning, you're neutral to Confed, Militia, and Merchants and hostile to Kilrathi and Retros, so I assumed they were forever you're enemy. Also, I thought the cats' sole objective is to eradicate the human race (which includes us, the privateer!)

In hindsight, I shouldn't have killed so many mercs, but they were pissing me off, and I had the hardware to do it. Hey, at least I befriended the pirates though!

I'm playing RF now and someone said that if I visit Roman Lynch, I can get my record cleared. However, I don't want my record with pirates cleared. Will he return all Alliance status to defaults or only mess with the Hostile ones?

Actually I ran thru Privateer and RF with one guy friends with Confed/mercs/militia, and one guy who was friends with the cats and pirates. I also was able to have one set up to be friends with both Kilrathi, Confed, mercs, militia and pirates, the only enemies was the Retros. How you ask?.....very carefully!! :D The secret was to only take missions from the mission computer and mercs guild that had you take on the Retros. I ignored all the others. After building up quite a kill score against the retros, and flying around in both Confed and Kilrathi space, sending friendly comms to all, the Retros were the only enemies! The game will attempt to balance itself depending on your killscore and against whom. Keep tabs on that and you can have everyone in that game, cept the Retros, your allies!! Shure makes that Steltek drone run a sinch, till that darn egg shows up!!

Lynch clearing your records will affect only the Confed, mercs, pirates, merchants, militia listings. It will NOT clear the Retros nor the Kilrathi.

On another note, if having too many friendlys around gets boaring, just start blasting away at whomever you think deserves a spanking! :D That will get their attention!!
