Privateer 2 email SIDE PLOTS question

webe123

Rear Admiral
ok So I have played Privateer 2 since when it came out in the 90's however...one thing I always seemed to never get was the extra emails that could open up other cinematic's in the game...I am talking about all of these side plots
then I found out that the stupid SOS was turned off by default in the game! I have played through the whole game to the end again....only to get two of those 12 emails...(I had my SOS receiver turned off...did not know about it till just now) They were Xavier Shondi and Lord Mike Vonx! Those were all I received!

So my question is this...will turning on the stupid SOS receiver when I am in space by hitting O give me all those 12 email side plots?

Also, I have already played through the entire game....do I have to start all over from the beginning and play it again...though this time with my SOS receiver on?

You see the only reason I started playing this game again was because I never got the stupid 12 extra email side plots! I did not know what I had to do to get them all! I have the GOG version with the patch installed from CIC....I am hoping that lets me get all the stupid emails!

Frankly I think it was very very stupid for the game to have the SOS receiver turned off by default! It let you skip parts of the game you did not know were there!

Anyway....any information you can give on how to finish all of these side quests would be appreciated.

Here is a list of the side plots I am talking about and here is the web address where I found them.

3 SIDE PLOTS

3.1 Xavier Shondi
I received e-mail from Xavier Shondi asking me to meet him at the Surgeon's
Blunder Bar on Crius. When I got there, he offered me 16,000 to protect an
arms shipment to the mutants on Karatikus of which half he would give me up
front. I couldn't resist such a sweet deal so I agreed. I met the cargo
ship in orbit of Crius and escorted it to Karatikus destroying quite a few
pirates on the way. When I returned to Crius, Xavier paid me the remaining
8000 credits.

Later, Shondi sent me an e-mail asking me to meet him at the Surgeon's
Blunder Bar for a job. Once there, he offered me 5000 credits to guard a
mining base of his. Even though he couldn't give me any up front money I
took the deal. In orbit I got the coordinates of the mining station at
Nav 144. But before I got there, I received an e-mail from Fark telling me
that Xavier was going to be ambushed at Nav 167 and only I could get there
in time. I just managed to destroy the fighters attacking Xavier by using
nearly constant afterburners and all my missiles. Shondi sent me a message
thanking me and telling me to see him at the Surgeon's Blunder Bar. At the
bar, Xavier thanked me and gave me 10,000 credits for my efforts.

3.2 Melissa Banks
I got an mayday from a Melissa Banks who was under attack. I hurried to her
Nav point and managed to destroy the fighters attacking her. Melissa sent
a message thanking me and telling me to meet her at the Rampant Robot Bar
on Hephaestus. At the Rampant Robot, Melissa thanked me in her own unique
way. She told me how she had been getting shot at since she started asking
questions about her dead brother and asked me to be escort her to Nav 68.
Not being blind, I said yes and she was definitely appreciative. I only
had to space a couple of fools in defending Melissa on her way to Nav 68.
Once there, she sent me a message and promised to meet me soon.

The next time I saw Melissa was at Sinner's Inn on Hermes. She was as
stunning as ever and I had some company in the dark.

3.3 Ralph McCloud
McCloud sent me an e-mail asking for help at Nav 57. I arrived and quickly
ended the miserable existence of the pirates attacking him. He sent me a
message thanking me and telling me he'd buy me a beer if I stopped by the
Sinner's Inn. When I showed up at the Sinner's Inn he not only bought drinks
but offered me Kraven Mark IV Lasers. I really liked this guy even if he
did have a terrible accent.

3.4 Bill Maddox
I received an e-mail from Maddox asking to meet me at the Shadowplay Bar on
Anhur. Once there, he offered me 6000 credits to escort a ship from Bex to
Anhur. I took the mission and kept various pirates from trashing the cargo
ship. Maddox might not be able to hear very well but he paid up the next
time I saw him at the Shadowplay Bar.

3.5 Dr. Graham Gould
Dr. Gould's e-mail asked me to deliver a vaccine from the hospital on Crius
to Angus Santana on Anhur. I agreed and collected the package from the
receptionist at Crius Hospital. The trip to Anhur was fairly quiet and I
gave the package to Santana for a 2000 credit fee.

Angus Santana offered me 4000 credits to take another package to Shernikov
Medical Supplies on Crius. I agreed and made the delivery run with a minimum
of fuss.

3.6 Louissa Phillips
I got a mayday from Louissa Phillips who was in trouble at Nav 104. I arrived
there and took care of the pirates attacking her. Her e-mail said I was her
hero and asked me to meet her at the Surgeon's Blunder Bar on Crius. I met
Louissa at the bar and wished I'd let the pirates have her. An underage
partner I don't need.

3.7 Bernice Barlow
Bernice sent me an e-mail asking to meet at the Rampant Robot Bar on
Hephaestus for an assignment. At the bar, she was impossible to miss. It
seemed that her former boss had screwed her (in more than one way I might add)
and she wanted the creep dead. For 7000 credits, I agreed to take care of it.
In orbit, I got his position at Nav 97. This corporate exec might have been
able to make money but he sure couldn't fly. It was definitely easy money.

3.8 Senator Ames
Senator Ames sent me a desperate e-mail asking me to meet his daughter at
Nav 17 and escort her Janus IV because she had been abandoned by her guards.
Once I got Temissa Ames safely to Janus IV, she sent me a message expressing
her thanks and an invitation to her apartment. At Temissa's apartment, I got
7000 credits for my trouble and Temissa thanked me in a much more personal
manner.

3.9 Uncle Kashumai
I got an e-mail from Uncle Kashumai asking me to go to the Holy Museum of Hom
on Bex. When I arrived, he was quite upset because the Bray brothers had
stolen a holy image and offered me 10,000 credits to get it back or exact
vengeance on those thieving infidels. Looking for Ronnie or Reggie Bray,
I went to the bar and talked to Alberto Fossa who offered me 5000 credits
to attend an auction for him. I gladly accepted and later met Reggie Bray who
conducted the auction. Since Fossa was fronting the money, I gave Bray
100,000 credits for the Holy Brew's Sun. Instead of talking to Fossa, I went
back to the Holy Museum of Hom and gave the statue to Uncle Kashumai. He
was so overjoyed that he gave me 20,000 credits for my efforts.

3.10 Auntie Maria
At the bar on Bex, I talked to Auntie Maria who offered me 3000 credits to
take her to Hephaestus. I agreed and it was a clean run. I met her at the
Rampant Robot and she paid my fee but seemed curiously distressed at my
mention of beer.

3.11 Lord Mike Vonx
Lord Vonx sent me a message asking me to meet him at his home on Anhur. He
offered to pay me 8000 credits to destroy an arms convoy that is coming to
Anhur from Hephaestus. I said yes and once in orbit he told me that only
two ships were carrying arms and not to destroy the ones carrying refugees.
I headed toward Hephaestus and after several Nav points I found the convoy.
This was one of the most difficult missions I've ever taken. Not only did
I have to avoid the turret fire of the cargo ships but there was also fighter
cover and way too many missiles for comfort. Eventually I identified the ship
carrying weapons (it returned a registration number on its ID) and took it
out. Vonx was good to his word and paid my fee.

3.12 Nelson Ramirez
I met Ramirez at the Sinner's Inn on Hermes. He mentioned that Joe said I was
dependable. Nelson offered 4000 credits to take him Janus IV. Even though it
sounded shady, I said yes. I managed to land on Janus after spacing a few
pirates and Ramirez paid me at the No Name Inn.

Hi

Your writing style with random words written in caps is exhausting. Anyway, I can't give a complete answer to your question (or, what appears to be your question) but I have one information that's certainly valuable for your situation:

Mission arcs that include cinematic footage can always only be triggered while playing with the related game-CD. Some videos are on CD 1, some on CD 2, some on CD3. Example: When you're using CD 1 or CD 2 as your game disk, you will NEVER get the mission where you can gain Access to the fancy Kraven lasers. Not in a thousand years.

I have to agree with the capitalization.

So my question is this...will turning ON the stupid SOS receiver when I am in space by hitting O give me ALL those 12 email side plots?

No. As quaker explained, some missions only appear on certain game discs.

Also, I have already played through the entire game....do I have to start all over from the beginning and play it again...though this time with my SOS receiver ON?

Yes, if you want to see the side missions you need to trigger them on their disc and by events. Kraven lasers are pretty fancy too.

But my question is...how do you trigger the events? I am using the official guide but it just lists the missions available
and I changed my post for all of you whiners!

My writing style may have had caps, but most can understand what I am saying except fore idiots like you.

Just for the record: Not all of these optional missions start with an in-flight email. Most do though. Sometimes there are other variables. Two examples: The second Xavier Shondi mission, obviously, can only be triggered when the first one is completed... / The Auntie Maria mission starts when she appears at the pub on Bex, so the player has to visit the place and talk to her.

For the missions to be triggered, most importantly the player has to be on the right game-CD. There may be other circumstances that have to be met, like a certain progress in the main story line, minimum financial net worth or such (I'm just guessing at these, no hard evidence). There are a few cases where it's quite obvious though: No second Shondi mission without the first one, and I bet there's no "bring-something-to-Santana" mission without having alread met him in the main story.

But overall, the requirements for any of these minor cinematic missions to be triggered are unknown (at least to me). The idea behind them is exactly that: To provide something of a surprise, that even after dozens of hours of gameplay something new may pop up. In a typical play-through of Privateer 2, most players will not run into all of the possible encounters.

As it appears, a lot of it is more or less randomized. So your best bet is to just explore the Tri-System, visit places, do stuff, and sooner or later something unexpected might happen. Right. It's such a wonderful universe, if only the gameplay wasn't broken.

Nice going there. I don't doubt for a moment that you will get plenty more help and replies by being a total jerk to anyone that actually bothers to respond to your questions.
Yeah just like I was not flamed first ...get a life dude!

These came before Quarto's post so how are you not causing grief? Those who complain of flames shouldn't play with gasoline. Just as we're clear, you threw the first punch. Two actually. Be grateful you were even answered despite your attitude.

Yeah just like I was not flamed first ...get a life dude!

You weren't flamed. Quaker merely stated your writing style was exhausting to read, and I agreed, and then both of us answered your questions. Then you insulted both of us...and he helped you again.

I have an idea. Stop being stupid and you might continue to get your questions answered if people feel inclined. However, if you continue to be a jerk I can guarantee no one will help and your stay can be cut short.

This place goes above and beyond friendly, I don't know of any other forums you can call people helping you idiots and still have them help you.

This is the number one resource for everything Wing Commander. If, say, in the year 2020 someone is looking for information about secondary missions in Priv 2, he will most likely end up reading this topic. Would be a shame if that someone found less than what would have been readily available (what little, yet maybe still something) just because someone else back in 2014 couldn't manage to behave properly.

Hi. I just bought this game off GOG. I haven't played it in 15 years and I just about figured it out again.
Where I'm stuck is the in-game email system. Melissa sends me an email saying I should let her know when I'm ready to escort her to Nav point 68. How do I do this?

Quite a while since I played it... you know her position, don't you? When you're there, I'm quite certain it's just a standard escort mission, so you have to send her the "let's get going" message via the inflight C-menu. (Then of course set course to nav 68, watch her speed and as soon as it decreases for initiating jumping jump yourself etc...)

Her ship isn't there though. After your encounter, you leave the planet and you get an incoming email as soon as you do. Now I'm starting to wonder if it's bugged.
EDIT:
Thanks for ruling out some kind of in-game email. I wasted a lot of time looking that up.
I figured it out. Just make 1 jump away and jump back, and her ship is there.

Right, you met her on a planet, video-encounter... She should be right there in the planet's local space after your next launch, you're supposed to toggle through all targets there, find and then contact her as I described. If that does not work I would suspect some kind of error too - I have never before encountered this problem though. Maybe someone else has an idea or knowledge about the problem?

There is no problem. It's just as you describe it. I didn't see any ships on the radar because I was near the planet. Jumping out and back in puts me near her ship. Cycling through targets to begin with would have solved it.

Umm..., I just turned up in 2022 and this is what I got. Ew! Now to read on in hopes of finding an answer to my own question of where the best-paying post-story missions are.... 🙃

Oof, I missed this thread at the time. To change CDs in the GOG version:

- Open the game.
- Using a text editor, open CD.DAT
- Change the number to the CD you want the game to think you're using (default is 1)
- Save CD.DAT and start the game again.
