Pre-WC1 ships?

I never knew that. How did he find it out, and how old was the victory during wc3?

Tiger's Claw was the first of the new, larger upgraded Bengals... the original, smaller variant entered service in '19. Which sort of makes sense, because why would the TCS *Tiger's Claw* be the first *Bengal* class ship?

Easy enough. Remember ships are not given hull number and names when they are completed..

Names are assigned to hull numbers. Hull numbers do not nessesarily mean the order they were completed. Yard problems.. material requisition problems, priority shifts.. could have held up the completion of the TCS Bengel enough for the Tiger's Claw to be the first completed.

Also, this could have happened also..

As ships are ordered to be built they are given a unique hull number and a name. While the Tiger's Claw was building (still at the keel stage), the TCS Bengel's keel may have been moved out of the space yard to make room for higher priority work..which took a very long time.. and then may have been scrapped when that higher priority work was done.

Two very probable explanations...no need to create confusion..

And rememember, the Tiger's Claw was the first completed and all the other ships were shorter.. where are you getting the "First of the larger Bengels" from? If anything it is the first and the LAST of the large Bengels..

Any where is this 2619 date coming from LOAF?

Re: Kruger...

While we're talking about him, can someone give me a brief history of Kruger? I've always been confused by certain parts of his background, such as the whole mutiny thing (if that's what it was).

Tiger's Claw

Hi, this is my first time on this board.

LOAF, about the Tiger's Claw. In the WC timeline, it says:

2642-2645

" To meet the ever-persistent threat of the Kilrathi Empire, Confed determines the need for a heavy space carrier, and authorizes the construction of a new Bengal-class carrier. Construction is undertaken by the Trojan Four Spaceyards in 2642. "

It also says that the first of the new carriers is the TCS Tiger's Claw.

It also says: " The following year, the second of the Bengals, the TCS Kipling, leaves spacedock. Due to design modifications, the Kipling and all future Bengal class ships are 10 meters shorter than the Tiger's Claw, making the Claw the biggest carrier in it's class. "

I'm inclined to agree with Gagarin. I don't think the Bengal was a pre-war ship. I'm new so you are probably going to tell me to shut up, which is fine. Or am i just ranting?

This is what I remember:

He had been a free trade merchant during the beginning of the war. He hooked up with Wilson and Tolwyn during their earlier years and became involved in The Battle of MacAuliffe. He was shot down behind enemy lines and, along with his surviving co-pilot, performed gurilla tactical warfare against a Kilrathi base on a jungle planet for a number of years before jumping a transport and heading back into Confed space.

There's a blank in my memory so I can't say what happens between what's covered in "Action Stations" and "Fleet Action".

In Fleet Action, Kruger is the figurehead of the Landreich, a group of Border World-esque planets that's trying to remain out of the war. Kruger became the head after going AWOL from Confed with a Destroyer or two and then forming his little independent pocket of space. He was a huge part in the survival of the human race, as he saved humanity from losing the Battle of Terra.

Later, in "False Colors", he became the Landreich president and also, in a later Kilrathi engagement, it's Fleet Admiral after removing a whiny politician of a Captain from his carrier.

Any errors LOAF?

Kruger worked for the Sarn Consortium, and was a rising star...until he killed one of the Sarn's sons (the son was about to murder a bargirl who rejected his advances...Kruger killed him before the guy could kill the bargirl). Kruger ran from the Sarns, who put out a contract on him.

Kruger eventually shipped out on a ship called the Phantom, where he was brutally hazed by Igor, the ship's captain. When the ship was harrassed by Kilrathi forces, Kruger had the sense to put on a space suit...good thing, as the ship took a partial missile hit as they jumped, breaching the hull and killing all aboard...except Kruger. Kruger piloted the ship back to port, repaired it, and ran a few missions with Tolwyn, Richards and co. When a state of emergency was declared in the Landreich, Kruger was automatically drafted.
I don't know much about him after that, save for the fact that he had a daughter...he also once hijacked a Confed destroyer and repelled a Kilrathi invasion on the Landreich, I believe. He has a Confed arrest warrant out for him for that...too bad the point became moot when he became President of the Landreich. Kruger also played a big hand in defending Earth...but I won't spoil Fleet Action for you.

Now, now, I'm not going to tell anyone to shut up -- discussing such things is my absolute favorite thing to do!

The 2619 date comes from the Confederation Handbook (p.34) -- with its bio for a 625 meter long variant of the Bengal. This statement, coupled with the fact that there really *should* be a TCS Bengal nameship, would seem to indicate that the 2642 descision was to upgrade to a new version of the older ship... consider that this is no more confusing than creating a story to explain why there is no TCS Bengal -- and it meshes all sources properly.

Kruger...

(Sorry, Kruger bio is pending... will post a bit later when I'm done with some other work... he's just too interesting <G>)

Perhaps you should add another rank title: WC Encyclopaedia, or some such. That way, newbies wouldn't try to argue so much... or perhaps you enjoy it better that way. :)

Doesn't matter - I was confused about the old/new/long/short/whatever Bengal thing too.

True but just changing his first name wouldnt REALLY help. And as Commander Turner pointed out, Landriechers would fry any assasin before he had a chance to kill one of their own, which Kruger was. Or would at least kill him immeadiatly after.:)

Which would be rather cold comfort to the recently deceased. :D

You mean.. remembering them from a book you were lucky to come across and spewing it out.

Anyway, does this book have a picture of the Bengel in it? I'd like to see if it looks like.... the movie... Bengel....

Hahaha.

No, it doesn't. Not practical...in today's millitary or the future..

Please don't be a jerk -- it's not helpful to anybody... except that dog that gets fed whenever we have to ban somebody.

I don't think there's anything 'lucky' about finding a copy of the Confed Handbook -- it's available from any online bookstore, or you can have a copy ordered at a local store.

There's far more to discussing Wing Commander than remembering facts -- although if you have such a disdain for talking WC, you probably shouldn't be at a WC forum, yes?

And it's Bengal... like a the tigers.

And yes, it has a picture of the movie Bengal -- but can't you just watch the movie?
