Post-Nephilim War Economy & Political Stability

On looking through Star*Soldier and just observing the gameplay concept behind Wing Commander Arena, I've been wondering about the post-Nephilim War Economy and Political Stability of all the major players in the Wing Commander Universe that would have perhaps been affected by the "new" war...

It almost seems like things have descended into the Wild West with old war veterans and new up-and-comers flying for dominance and stability over any given chunk of real estate. Is the Confederation still intact or have planets and/or systems seceded? Seems things were going pretty well up to the events in Prophecy, but it almost seems like things are out of control (at least in certain regions) during Arena.

What of the Kilrathi? Is the Assembly of Clans likely still intact, or would they (could they) be under the leadership of a new alpha cat/emperor?

Any input, thoughts, ideas about the Border Worlders or our Landreich friends?

My theory on this based on the Star*Soldier booklet is that as the Nephilim war heated up at one point both sides upgraded their laser weaponry/mass drivers/missles, etc to completely penetrate the phase shields of the time (or alternatively invented new phase shields which torpedoes couldn't penetrate on battlecrusiers) - allow for major fleet carriers like the Vesuvius class and Yorktown class to be easily destroyed by enemy fighters. Suddendly raiding fleets were able to cross the front lines leaving almost every world on it's own on both sides for years with Confeds sphere of influence limited to the primary front line and around the core worlds.

When the war ended in an "End Run" fashion, the ships all turned around only to find wreckage and destruction and the Confederation and Kilrathi worlds basically divided and on their own and simply returned to the core worlds and now rarely venture out.

Makes you wonder what happens next, maybe a "Unification War" or something.

It looks like both the economy of the Confederation and Kilrathi are in a state of total shambles during Arena. Which is probably not unexpectable after so many decades of unending war.

I'm not sure star soldier suggests that Confed is in shambles so much as the worlds that used to be confed are a complete wreck. Confed has basically shrunk it's border and is concentrating on it's core.

Yes, the Arena material is specific to the frontier - the idea was supposed to be that the Confederation and the Kilrathi are rebuilding their core worlds (with some success) and have 'abandoned' places like Epsilon for the time being.
