Pilgrim Truth novel?

Well now, Earthworm, while continuity errors can be either fixed or ignored, they shouldn't be denied :). In Knight's case, (IIRC... I guess it's time to watch my WC DVD again) we see his ship blow to bits and no ejection pod. So yes, there is a continuity error, albeit a totally insignificant one.
 
Oh, but Quarto, there's always room for ejection, even if your ship is in flames.:) Certainly it was possible for Knight to eject without us seing it.
 
Of course that really minor, considering that Iceman (or Bossman, can't remember which) dies before Blair ever meets him in the movie. Yet he is alive and well in time for WC1.

vondoom I mentioned that before, you got a better fix than what I have? We'd love to hear it. Any fixes that can fix this mess will be good.
 
Well, most people don't like my method as it involves taking CR at his word when he said that the WCM would be "loosely based" on WC1. I don't think it was ever intended to be fit with the WC games but was supposed to be something new while still paying homage to the games. Don't everybody start getting into a war about this though, just replying on my "solution" and feel free to disregard it as I am sure some (Cough "Earthworm" Cough :) ) will. If you can make it fit thats great though.
 
well, I messaged telep a year ago.

He personally told me, the movie and his series according to him and CR were an Alternate Universe. But Personally that is a copout excuse, imho. all of the story fits into continuaty just fine(except for those so called deaths.), and I suspect some good continuaty glue could be added to it to make it fit in just fine.

WING COMMANDER/PRIVATEER & WING COMMANDER ACES timline has a good a fix as any for me.

Bossman's real death was an important story line plot that happened a few years later in Wing Commander Secret Missions 2: crusade.

At some point: 1) both Christopher Blair and Todd Marshall receive grade reductions to 2nd lieutenant. 2) Captain James Taggart transfers to the TCSF and is given the rank of major. 3) Lieutenant Commander Jeannette "Angel" Devereaux steps down from squadron commander and rejoins the TCSF under the rank of captain. 4) Lieutenant Joseph "Knight" Khumalo, MIA since his Broadsword was shot out from under him on 2654.076, is recovered and returns to the Claw, receiving a promotion to captain. Knights fix works for me also, but I stated something I think works better, some other peoples fix ideas mentioned also sound good.

The thing that irks me the most is that telep put the research into the story putting characters such as the bartender and spirit that aren't seen in the movie in the book. All that and make a copout remark that it is AU.

Yeah.. that's easy for Telep to say to cover mistakes, but the "truth" is Telep goes to very great lengths to ensure continuity. During the writing process he did tons of WC universe research to properly write his novels (and apparently does that for his other books as well).
 
I fully agree.

The reason his WC books are so good, is because he did his research, there is stuff in the book that will make a fan sit back and say man that's cool I remember that character. His timeline also meshed quite a bit with the official timeline that came with wing commander games. The map in wcp even has the 3 pilgrim homeworlds. He did his research,and apparently so did origin back then. He even told me that CR gave him all the manuals and story boards and story outlines for the games, and the novels, so that he could right a story that meshed in with the continuaty. But he said he couldn't use the information directly without vagueing it over a little bit, because Origin and Baen had the copyright and didn't want their ideas in a harpercollins book(or some such gobbelygook). But he said he fit in as much as he could possibly do without being caught. It's a damb shame that he rights himself short by saying it's Alternate Universe.

Hmmmm...

Did you guys see that this synopsis is dated March 15th, 1999? i didn't see it when i opened the .doc file in word, but when i printed it out, that info was on page 1.

That's pretty opposing to the "if 20 of you take the time to review my books, i will take the time to write a plot summary" idea of how this "deal" was explained here by a few people. Telep just could have given out that plot outline months ago, but I guess he has a least basic skills in marketing strategies.

anyway, i hope some of you are happy with this plot summary and i hope i've contributed my little part to it, however for me it still means i have to wait for the book to be published.

I think its the official synopses that most authors make to give to the publisher to see if they like where the story is going. For the star wars books, that heads straight to lucas himself, to get his ok.
 
Telep didn't say he'd *write* a plot outline, he said he'd send us the already written plot outline. Further, we set the number at 20, not him.

He also certainly did a lot of research on the games -- he asked me quite a few questions about the WC universe, and I sent him a WC1... <G>

(If you believe that Star Wars plot outlines go to Lucas, I have a bridge to sell you...:))

Lucasfilm has stated while he doesn't read the books, "he looks at a short outline, if anything looks like it will mess with topic ideas for the upcoming movies stuff, he doesn't want people writing about he won't allow the story to be published, or will make them change aspects of the story"

even if you had a bridge to sell me I would buy it.

Yeah and lots of things have happened that he now hates. Coroscont ( bad spelling sorry, Imperial City) and Boba Fett are two of the things that he never intended to be the way they are now
 
That's his prerogative.

He didn't have to call coruscant by the novel names he could have renamed it it was his prerogative. It was at least nice of him to do it though.

As for boba fett, the official word their is that the back stories are false stories spread by fett to hide his true identity. Lucas has taken his prerogative and is rewriting the whole fett mythos. It's his decision and I commend him on not being controlled by his company. Fett was orignally not intended to be an important character, that was why so much information surrounding him was allowed to be written. But when lucas knew of his fandom, he decided to make him an important character in the upcoming film. The full particulers of this is discussed somewhere on the official site.

It's his universe if he decides to write over the EU, that his choice, his word is the official canon.

Now, it seems Boba Fett is a clone of Jango Fett, a bounty hunter in league with Palpatine and a dark Jedi named Count Dooku. We'll see him next year in Episode II. Seems Jaster Mereel was a pseudonym. ;)

And as for continuity problems in WC, I stopped trying to make them fit a long time ago. It was a bigger headache than it was worth. ;)
 
Star Wars is the equal of Wing Commander: The stories behind them rule !!!

But what's the deal about boba ?
 
I would not call them equal, Star Wars has a much more complete universe (I own 30 SW books and there are many that I have just borrowed from the library and the comic books, the games which are as numorous or more so than WC, and of course the movies) but WC is much more fun since you actually can feel like you are a part of it, and It is a potential future for this world whereas Star Wars is taking place "a long time ago in a galaxy far far away".
