Pilgrim Truth novel?

Because it was scheduled for release in december 2000 and is still not out, I'm wondering what the status of Peter's third and final WC novel "Pilgrim Truth" is. Are there any known reasons for the delay? Will it be out at all or has the project been abandoned? I'm already waiting for it a long time :(

Check the Jan 2001 or December 2000 News over at the CIC. http://www.wcnews.com The future for it getting published is dim, but Telep was making an offer involving people reviewing one of his novels at Amazon and he would pass on the Outline for the book.

i still don't see why you people don't just go to amazon.com and leave some possitive feedback on the Red planet book! it'll be a chance to see what pilgrim Truth is all about!!

Well, for one, I don't want to read it. And I don't think Mr. Telep would be happy if people lied and posted a review for a book they've never read just to get something out of it. That's dishonest. ;)

Thanx for this information.

I've looked thru those news now and wonder what has happened about it. About exactly two months ago Telep suggested that if "enough" people review his new other book on amazon.com, he'd give "us" the "outline" of Pilgrim Truth.

Did that happen yet? Haven't there been enough reviews? How many are enough? Got any idea about the status of the book itself? Has it not been finished, due to lack of time, or interest by Telep, or is it finished and just not published because such a book wouldn't sell as well as a movie novelization with 500 amazon.com reviews?

Too bad, starting with a trilogy and then stopping after the second book, I was really looking forward to this one. :(

And no, I haven't reviewed Red Planet on amazon, and I won't do so either, since I haven't read it and won't... I'm just interested in the WC books, so I'd rather read and review Telep's next WC novel... ;)

Yeah stopping 2/3rd of the way through a trilogy sucks. I didn't like the movie, so I never read the movie books, so at least I'm not screwed there. However, years ago, Infocom (creators of classic text adventure games like Zork, Witness, etc.) had novels loosely based on the universes some of their game were in. They planned a triology for Planetfall, which was followed by Stationfall, but the thirfd in the series never made it. I looked up the author once, he is now doing Buffy The Vampire Slayer Books. I always wondered how the tirology would be finished :(

We talked to Telep just last week. Sixteen reviews was rather pitiful. :) The goal was around twenty.. and just this week we passed that number.

And really, I'm sure Peter Telep would not care one bit if you "dishonestly" gave him a positive review..

wish he could go to another publisher

I wish he could have baen books publish pilgrim truth, they are publishing his other stories in other countries. For all we know they might even publish pilgrim truth in germany. We should get it also.

Well, Harper won't actually say Pilgrim Truth is dead.. Telep can't get a straight answer out of them. It's conceivable that it could still yet be printed.

maybe it will be published maybe it won't but if it isn't by harper, im sure that mr. telep could find somebody else like Baen to do it.

Yeah well,

... wondering whether that's a real deal or just a marketing trick then. If he wants reviews on amazon.com and doesn't care whether the reviewer read the book at all, he could go fake them himself if you ask me.

I think he'll have to accept that people are reading his books because of the story and not because they are written by him, it's just like you read a newspaper for its content and not because of the journalist. Telep certainly has a good writing style, but I'm just not interested in books about Descent etc.

I've seen the red planet movie and I think the whole plot sucks, so even if the book might be better than the movie (which is the usual case), I'm not interested in reading it...

The only sure thing is that I will buy Pilgrim Truth when it gets released, and I'd even "promise" to review it on amazon if that's useful for Telep...

I think Telep should get PT released... even if he doesn't make much money with it, at least all his writing work wouldn't be in vain if the fans get to read it. I wouldn't even mind getting it as primitive .txt file downloadable from the publisher's website for a few bucks, that'd be cheaper than printing it as paper book... or whatever, just get it out :)

Well, Amazon.com does track you.. so while it's possible for one person to write more than one reviews, it's a pain.

Depends, if you are on a dialup with dynamic IP and don't use cookies... whatever :)

I'm just not surprised that so few people here review Red Planet, I think most here read two WC books by Telep because they were about WC, not because they were by him. Red Planet is like a book about gardening, I might enjoy reading it because it's by a good author, I just don't even buy it because the story doesn't interest me. And I don't think a deal like "read all my other books and i'll write one more which interests you" is fair.

there are only two options for me, either Telep makes me happy by getting Pilgrim Truth released or he pisses me off because he stops the trilogy after the second book. Not much in between there :)

Well yeah, but you must keep in mind that publishing Pilgrim Truth is beyond Telep's control. He sold the publishing rights to HarperCollins, so that's it - he can't publish it elsewhere. He can only wait and hope that they will.

Hmm, I don't have a clue about Telep's contract with HarperCollins and I guess it's not my business, but if it is as you say, the novel is finished and just doesn't get printed and published by HarperCollins, has any of you ever contacted them directly and asking about the book's status?

I think they should be able to either give a clear Yes or No to whether the book will ever be released, because if they don't want to do so (assuming not enough people buying it) now, they probably know that for the future it is more likely that less people will be interested in it than more... so as for releasing it, it's kinda now or never.

It would be pretty disappointing to know that it'll never be published, but that'd still be better than the uncertainity and the waiting for it.

I'm very surprised so few people reviewed it. You click somewhere, write "Book good," and get the plot outline for the next WC novel (not when less than one in seventy-five visitors does it of course). Seems like a no brainer to me.

My educated guess is that nobody cares. It's a whole lot easier to just whine on a bulletin board than write a quick review.

No its that the people have not read the book and they like me dont think it is moraly or ethically correct to review something that you never read because it could make people buy it and waste their money on a potentially bad book

That's nonsense. There's plenty of stuff you rate highly that others will absolutely hate. If people buy the book because some webpage told them too, and they don't like it, it's their own fault.
